Chapter 10 Her Betrayal
Maryanne met his gaze coldly. “Cristofer, we’re divorced. What does my relationship with him matter to you?
“Take your filthy hands off me.”
Cristofer smirked, his smile dark and mocking. His voice dripped with casual cruelty. “Maryanne, are you that desperate? We’re not even divorced yet, and you’re already chasing other men. Admit it. You betrayed me.”
“No!” Maryanne’s voice cracked. “I’m nothing like you. From the start, you were vile, marrying me for a bet. How hard this past year must’ve been for you.”
Pain flickered in Maryanne’s eyes. Her hands shot up, fingers digging into pressure points on Cristofer’s wrists. With a sharp twist, she broke free.
His fingers jerked open in reflex as sharp pain radiated up his arms.
Chest tight, Cristofer studied the woman before him with new intensity.
Maryanne didn’t wait for a reply. She slid into her car and sped off.
Cristofer stood frozen, watching her car vanish. His expression was unreadable.
He glanced at his hands, the lingering sting fading.

As Maryanne drove, Cristofer’s words echoed in her mind.
He accused her of betrayal.
She laughed bitterly. He was the cheater, yet he spun it on her.
She inhaled deeply, pushing down the ache. Even after a month of isolation, she couldn’t untangle where it all went wrong.
Her phone rang. She tapped the answer button on the dashboard.
A gentle voice greeted her. “Marya.”
“Grandpa.” Her tone softened.
“The purple diamond is secured. I’ll have a master jeweler craft a set for your 23rd birthday next month.”
Maryanne chuckled lazily. “Grandpa, didn’t our family ‘clean up‘ and go legit twenty years ago? Are you sure this diamond isn’t… from the past? I’d hate to wear it and get hunted down.”
“You brat. Nothing slips past you. I spent years clawing my way up in the underworld, only to spend decades trying to forget. Now you’re dragging it back.
“This diamond has a history. By winning it, you’ve officially returned to Nebula Group.” His tone turned serious.
“And our four–year deal is done. I never asked where you vanished, but now, pull yourself together. I’m retiring. No more chaos.”
Maryanne hesitated, then asked lightly, “Grandpa… Want a great-

grandchild?”
He hissed. “You sound like some dumped lover. They say women get dumped for their looks, but you’re rich, smart, and gorgeous. How’d you manage it? And now a kid?”
Maryanne thought, “Can we pretend I never said that?”
“Enough. Who needs men? Come back and take over the family business. You’re still young. Give it a few years, and every heir in Summerville will grovel at your feet.”
Maryanne was stunned.
Since when did he get so modern?
He added abruptly, “Mimi, months ago, you brought home an injured man. He’s still unconscious. Is he the baby’s father?”
