Chapter 8
“Get lost!”
Reginald shoved Ingrid off with rage, throwing her aside.
“I love you so much, and all you ever think about is Lisbeth! What did I do wrong? I’m the Montgomery family’s daughter now and your legal wife. Lisbeth is nothing!”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
A commanding female voice cut through the room as seven or eight suited men stormed in. A bruised, swollen–faced man was tossed to the floor like
a sack of meat.
He groaned in pain, unable to form words, but he looked at Ingrid with pleading eyes.
Ingrid stared at him, stunned. She finally recognized him and gasped in
horror.
“Dad!”
The moment Reginald saw the imposing woman standing there, he quickly fixed his clothes and forced a proper expression. “Mom,” he greeted her respectfully.
However, Beatrice Hallaway did not even glance at him.
“You are just Ken’s illegitimate daughter and you dare to take Lisbeth’s place as the Montgomery family’s heir? You’ve got some nerve.”
With a wave of her hand, one of the bodyguards stepped forward and slammed a fist into Ingrid’s stomach. She immediately doubled over and

Soon, more punches followed. Ingrid cried out in pain, curled up, and started begging for mercy.
“Spare you?” Beatrice said coldly. “Fine. Beat that old scoundrel the same way you beat Lisbeth back then. If I’m satisfied, I’ll let you off.”
Ken, still on the floor, spat out curses, “You evil witch! Are you seriously telling my daughter to beat me? Beatrice, you’ll get what’s coming to you…”
However, he did not finish the sentence. He looked at Ingrid’s tear- streaked face as she raised her fist, and he went silent.
The whole scene sent a chill down Reginald’s spine.
“And you?”
Beatrice’s glare shifted to him–sharp enough to cut.
“I watched you grow up. I always thought you and Lisbeth were a perfect match, but I never imagined you’d fall for someone like her.”
Reginald’s face turned red with shame.
“You even had the nerve to help Ken forge a fake paternity test, pin everything on Lisbeth, and cover for this snake? She bled to death because of you!”
A loud slap echoed through the room, landing squarely on Reginald’s
face.
“Impossible! There’s no way Lisbeth’s dead!”
Reginald’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse with rage.
The nurse’s words kept ringing in his ears, but he still refused to believe

Seeing the icy fury on Beatrice’s face, he slowly knelt down, desperation etched across his face.
“You’re lying to me, right? I know I messed up, but just let me see her- just once!”
Beatrice let out a cold, bitter laugh.
“You’ll never see her again. Not in this life.”
Reginald’s head shot up, his eyes wide with disbelief.
“N–no way. Lisbeth wouldn’t die. She wouldn’t leave me!”
Beatrice’s expression darkened. She jabbed a finger at his face and snapped, “How dare you even say her name? You lied to her for five years, married another woman, had a kid, and then made Lisbeth raise that child–like some clueless nanny! You stole her life, her identity, drained her dry, and now you want to act like the heartbroken lover? You think you’re worthy of her?”
Beatrice was not holding back anymore, and Reginald’s heart felt like it had been ripped open.
