Chapter8
And the only person present at the scene… had been Mona.
That would explain why the researcher, mortally wounded, had crawled for several meters, leaving a bloody trail. He’d been trying to reach her.
Of course, all of this was still speculation. To confirm anything, he’d need to run tests–specifically, a sample of Mona’s blood.
Mona stood frozen, completely stunned by what she’d just heard.
‘A wet nurse?‘ That word belonged in ancient history–not modern life. And definitely not when referring to her.
‘I am unmarried. I’ve never had a child. And now I am being asked to lift my shirt and nurse a grown man?” she thought.
Just imagining it made her want to dig a hole and disappear forever.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Haley,” she said, voice steady. “But I have to refuse.”
“You can name your price.” Waylon’s tone was calm, matter–of–fact. He was a businessman–used to measuring everything in numbers. If something couldn’t be bought, it only meant the offer hadn’t been high enough.
“It’s not about money,” Mona replied seriously. “Mr. Haley, I know what happened earlier was inappropriate. I’d been drugged–I wasn’t in control of myself. For that, I truly apologize. But the idea of being your. wet nurse? That’s not just about money. It’s about my dignity. I’m not that kind of woman. So please, don’t ask again.”

Her voice was firm, leaving no room for negotiation.
Waylon gave a faint smile–cold, unreadable, like fire frozen in ice. It sent a chill straight to the bone
“No rush,” he said. “You can think it over. Give me your answer when you’re ready.”
He stood and walked over to her. Noticing her torn shirt, he shrugged off his suit jacket and draped it gently over her shoulders.
The fabric smelled faintly of mint–clean and crisp. Oddly comforting.
With a practiced motion, he pulled the lapels closed to cover her chest,. shielding her from view.
“Come on. I’ll take you home.”
They left the hotel together. Waylon drove her back to her apartment.
complex.
“Thank you for the ride, Mr. Haley,” Mona said quietly, giving a polite.
nod.
“You’re welcome.” He stepped out and opened the door for her himself.
She got out, bowed slightly, and turned to walk into the complex.
Waylon watched her for a moment, then pulled out his phone and made a call.
“No need to look into the car crash anymore,” he said.
On the other end, his assistant and bodyguard Mckinley Sherman asked, “Boss, what about your condition?”

“I’ve found the cure,” Waylon replied, then hung up and drove off
Mon reached the front door of the Morse family home, but like a good- or worse, an outsider she had no key. She had to knock
Chick. The door opened
Natalie stood there. Her eyes flicked to the man’s jacket draped over Mona’s shoulders, and a smirk of thinly veiled contempt crowed her face,
“Ms. Morse is back.”
Mona lowered her head and stepped inside.
She had just crossed the threshold when something came flying toward her
A whip
She ducked instinctively. The whip cracked against a vase by the entryway, shattering it into pieces
Hot on its heels came Micah’s furious roar.
“Mona! You jinx! You actually dared to leak that video and disgrace this family? Today I’m going to beat you to death, you little bastard!”
He struck again.
The space in the entryway was too narrow to dodge.
The whip lashed across her shoulder with a loud crack, the pain exploding through her body.
Before the third strike could land, Mona caught the whip in her bare hand.

Her voice rang out, sharp and clear, “You say it was me–do you have proof?”
Micah growled, “Liza saw you go into the projection room!”
Mona’s eyes snapped to Liza, sharp as a blade. “You saw me do it with your own eyes?”
Liza shrank back, hiding behind Eldon. “Mona. I didn’t say it was you.”
Mona let out a cold laugh. “Oh? You saw me there? Then I say you switched the video–on purpose–to humiliate our parents.”
Micah’s face turned purple with rage. “You dare falsely accuse Liza? I . swear I’ll beat the truth out of you!”
He yanked the whip free from her grasp and raised it again.
But Mona had had enough.
Before the blow could land, she stepped forward and drove a fierce kick straight into his gut, sending him crashing to the ground.
When Mona was in prison, she shared a cell with seven other women.
Half of them had studied finance. One was a martial arts coach.
She was the weakest of the bunch, so she ended up doing everyone’s laundry and folding their blankets. In return, they made her learn finance.
and martial arts.
Now, she had those skills–and it was finally time to put them to use.
