Chapter22
“Mona, don’t be foolish. If you offend Mr. Haley, it won’t just be you. He could topple all of Ulby if he wanted to.”
With that, he reached for her again.
Mona stepped forward and slammed her elbow hard into his chest.
Eldon staggered back, pain spreading through his ribs, irritation flashing in his eyes.
“Mona, you’re still as unreasonable as ever. Three years ago, you could’ve just swallowed your pride. Let me and the Morse family help you. We would’ve sent money–made your time in prison easier. But you had to play

Mona scoffed. “Oh please. Crocodile tears and fake charity. You framed me, made me take the fall for Liza, and then had the nerve to pretend you were helping me? That wasn’t compassion–it was manipulation.”
She wiped her elbow like she’d just touched something filthy. “Pathetic. Stay away from me, hypocrite.”
“You’re completely irrational.” Eldon snapped, losing patience. He lunged forward again.
But before he could get close, a hand grabbed his arm mid–motion.

“Sir,” said a calm, firm voice, “this is Haley Group. If you lay a hand on
our guest, there will be conso “es.”
The man shoved Eldon back and stepped protectively in front of Mona.

Eldon recognized him instantly–Mckinley, Waylon’s head of security.

He quickly bowed his head. “Mr. Sherman, it’s not what it looks like. I’m not trying to make trouble. I know this woman–she followed me here when she found out I was coming. I was just trying to take her away before she caused a scene.”
“I don’t know him,” Mona said flatly.
Mckinley turned to the nearby guards. “She says she doesn’t know you. Escort him out. This is Haley Group, not a place where just anyone can walk in.”
Eldon’s face turned beet red with humiliation.
He opened his mouth to explain, but the guards were already moving, firmly escorting him out.
Mckinley turned back to Mona and gave her a respectful nod. “Ms. Morse, I’m Mckinley, head of Mr. Haley’s security detail. He asked me to personally take you home.”
Mona met his eyes calmly. “Thank you. I appreciate it.”
Mckinley led her to the entrance, where a sleek luxury car was already waiting by the curb.
He opened the door. “Ms. Morse, please.”
She slid into the back seat. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of Eldon–still standing at a nearby planter, watching her with an unreadable expression.
A few minutes into the ride, the car slowed outside a pastry shop.
“Ms. Morse,” Mckinley said, “this place is known for its cakes. Mr. Haley

asked me to stop and pick up a few for you to take home.”

“That’s really not neces-” she began, but Mckinley interrupted gently, yet firmly.
“Ms. Morse, please don’t forget your current position. If Mr. Haley is eating something, it’s best you eat it too.”
Mona blinked, then nodded, understanding.
She was breastfeeding Waylon now. Of course what she ate mattered.
Clearly, she couldn’t just eat whatever she wanted anymore–she had to eat what Waylon liked.
Mckinley handed Mona a folder. “This is a meal plan prepared by Mr. Haley’s nutritionist. It includes both his dietary restrictions and his favorite foods. Please follow it for all three meals each day. Is that
understood?”
Though his tone was polite and respectful, every word carried the weight
of an order.
Mona accepted the folder and nodded. “I’ll make sure to remember Mr. Haley’s preferences.”
Then Mckinley handed her a sleek bank card. “This is your salary card. Mr. Haley has already deposited two months‘ advance pay. He’s also transferred an additional 3 thousand dollars as a nutritional allowance. You’re underweight–your body needs care.”
Mona hadn’t expected this. On top of the 17 thousand dollars monthly salary she had agreed to, she was now receiving a bonus–equal to her salary–just for nutrition.
That meant there was already 70 thousand dollars sitting in this card.

And to think, just yesterday she’d been working at a nightclub, enduring humiliation just to earn 100 dollars. Now, this all felt unreal–like a dream she might wake from at any moment.
But Mckinley wasn’t finished. “One more thing–you’re no longer allowed to work at places like nightclubs. That’s all I needed to say. Do you have any objections?”
“None,” Mona said calmly. She had been the one to ask Waylon for help. She was in no position to object.
Then let’s head to the hospital. You’ll undergo a full physical exam to make sure everything’s in good health. Once that’s done, your employment will be official. Is that okay?”
“Of course.”
Mckinley took her to a private medical center. A specialized team was already waiting to conduct a full check–up tailored to her.
