Chapter 22
Chapter 22
I am sitting idly in my office with my mind on Celine. I have rummaged deep into memories I have of her that I’m not reminiscing the times we shared when we were much younger. There’s suddenly a knock on my door, and that bring me back.
to earth.
“Who is it? “I call, and for some reason, on hearing Ace’s voice, a certain kind of anger fills me.
“It’s Ace. Can I come in Alpha? “He replies, and I sigh.
“Yes. “I reply, and when the door opens, Ace walks in.
tried to kill
“Any news on who tried to kill Celine? “I question as he stands in front of me, and he shakes his head to say no.
“No, Alpha. We’ve found nothing. No footsteps, no trace, no scent, no witnesses, nothing. The only way we can get to the bottom of this is if Celine tells us what happened. “He replies, and I shut my eyes as I pinch the bridge of my nose.
“Has she told you anything? “He then questions, and I shake my head.
No. She hardly talks. “I reply, and silence follows.
“Can I see her? “He then questions and I freeze, I look up at him and fresh anger begins to fill me. Anger I’ve never felt towards my brother before.
“What do you mean? If she doesn’t tell me, why would she tell you? “I question defensively, and Ace maintains his calm expression.
“We both know you’re not exactly her favorite person. If we want to get any news and protect her, I think it’s best we take advantage of the person she’s at least a bit comfortable with. “He replies and I stare.
“Not exactly her favorite person, I reply and he remains silent,
“And you are!? “I add like an offended child, and Ace remains sotic.
“I never said that, Alpha. He replies, and I sigh.
“What are you going to do? “I then add. Trying to calm down, and change the topic.
“Talk to her. See if she was able to see who did this “He replies, and I sigh.
Max and I don’t want Ace anywhere near Celine. For some reason, he’s beginning to seem like competition. I don’t like it, but
he’s right.
“Fine. I’ll let you talk to her. “I say, and he nods, and bows.
“Thank you, Alpha.
With that, he turns around and as I watch my older brother walk away, I begin to wonder in what ways he’s better than me, and why Celine prefers him to me. What does he do that I don’t? And how do I handle the situation??
Do I let them relate and learn from him? Or put a total stop to him and Celine’s relationship and interactions.
Third Person’s Narrative;
Ace stepped into Celine’s room with the weight of the entire situation heavy on his shoulders. He looked at Celine, and the sight of her fragile state broke his heart.
She looked disoriented, and her delicate features contorted in pain as she moved in the bed to see who walked in. She was expecting to see Aiden, and Ace knew that. So he understood the disgust that was on her face when she first turned to the door, but, as their eyes met, Celine’s face abruptly transformed. An unexpected light flickered in her eyes. A light so sudden, it somehow warmed Ace’s heart.
“Ace? “She whispered with her voice filled with joy.

Without stopping to think, and entirely ignoring the searing pain from her stab wounds, she pushed herself off her bed, ran across the room, and threw herself into Ace’s waiting arms.
“How are you? “He whispered as he battled to hide the emotions in his voice, but Celine still heard it. His presence was so overwhelming, that she couldn’t hold back her emotions or stop herself. She broke down.
Tears streamed down her face as her despair overwhelmed her, and Ace held her tightly, trying to provide comfort and support as she broke into his arms. He gently brushed her tears away, and his heart ached at the sight of her suffering
Just when he began to feel her weak legs trembling under her, he carried her weightless form to the bed, while cradling her like a fragile flower. He eased her down gently on her bed, and his touch radiated a sense of reassurance in her darkest hour.
He continued to caress her, as he knew that his touch would act as a balm to her tormented spirit.
Her voice trembled and was a mix of relief and pain as she spoke..
“Ace, where have you been?” she asked, the strain evident in her voice.
“I don’t understand anything anymore. How long have I been unconscious? And why does Aiden keep coming here? I despise him and want nothing to do with him, and yet he’s the only person I keep seeing. I can’t leave my room or do anything without him. I hate it! “She complained, and Ace listened with a heavy heart with his eyes locked with hers and understanding the depth of her pain,
However, despite his desire to stay by her side, he knew that time was a cruel master, licking away without a care in the world of how he fell Taking a deep breath, he chose to interrupt Celine
“Celine, I promise to answer all your questions, but Aiden has given me a limited timeframe to be here. After that, he’ll either send for me or come in here himself. I know you won’t want the latter, so I have something important to acquire before the time he gave me runs out. “He explains, and Celine’s brows furrow, with her vulnerability laid bare.
“What is it that you came for?” she asks, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and hurt. She had thought that he came in here to check up on her, but now he’s telling her that he only came to get something,
Ace hesitated, grappling with the heaviness of the question he was about to ask. “I came to find out who made an attempt on your life,” he said softly, with his voice laced with determination.
“Just tell me who did this to you, and I promise to make them pay. “He added, and a chilling silence enveloped the room as Celine stared at him.
She finally looked away from him and closed her eyes, as the memories of the horrifying moment flooded her mind. Inhaling deeply, she mustered the strength to finally say the name of the person who currently haunted her dreams. “Carla,” she whispered, and Ace froze.
