Soon after, I was put in place, right in Chase’s
path.

The third time he rescued me from some
drunken frat boys, he looked down at me and
smirked, “Well, aren’t you a sight for sore
eyes?”

I bashfully lowered my head and whispered, “I’m
sorry. I didn’t mean to cause trouble…”
Chase clicked his tongue and lifted a strand of
hair from my face.
“Being this gorgeous can be a curse. Why does
trouble always find you?”
The night wind swirled around me, lifting the
hem of my white dress.
My long hair fluttered in the breeze.
My eyes welled up, and I quietly whispered, “I’m
used to it. Always been this way.”
Chase froze.
く
Then, his friends came spilling out of a club,
looking around, “Chase, what are you doing in
this dead–end alley?”
One guy eyed me, grinning, and reached out to
touch my face, “Where did you find this doll?
She’s so fresh.”
Chase slapped his hand away, scowling, “Get
lost.”
The others immediately tried to smooth things
over, “Dude, you blind? She’s obviously with
Chase.”
Once the guys were gone, tears streamed down
my face. I tugged on Chase’s sleeve.
He didn’t pull away.
I looked up, meeting his gaze, all vulnerable,
“Because you’re here, they won’t mess with
me.”
Chase reached out and wiped away a tear.
My eyelashes fluttered. In a rush of bravery, I blurted out, “D–Do you have a girlfriend?”
The night wind was cold, sending shivers down
my spine.
Chase bent down and easily scooped me up in
his arms.
He said casually, “Not now, and not planning on
it.”
I stared at him, dumbfounded.
Chase carried me to his sports car parked
down the street.
Dozens of eyes watched us.
Embarrassed, I buried my face in his chest,

murmuring, “It’s okay. I…I don’t need a label.”
My answer was exactly what Chase expected.
After all, a girl’s love and dependence were so obvious and intense.
Chase smirked, put me in the passenger seat, and placed a kiss on my lips.
“Alright.”
