Chapter 8
The next day, I went to the studio.
I had a meeting with my colleagues to finalize our first project.
I said, “This time, our task is to recruit senior management for Sunrise Group, the internationally renowned tech company.
“This is the project report I wrote. Please take a look.
“I’ll meet the client tonight for details. We’ll start tomorrow.”
The meeting room was utterly silent with the only sound being my voice as I fluently reported.
Everyone’s gaze was on me.
The meeting ended.
My assistant looked at me with admiration in her sparkling eyes.
“Ms. Parrish, I’m sure we’ll nail it.

“Three years ago, while you were still in Speynia, you recruited half of the management team for Glory Group all at once.
“Their higher–ups still invite you to their annual meeting each year to thank you.
“Though I’ve never been to Speynia, I have heard a lot about you. Everyone in the headhunting field knows about you.”
Someone echoed, “Yay! We’re so lucky to work for Ms. Parrish. I’m sure she’ll lead us to something great!”

Another person said with a grin, “I love being part of the team! Ms. Parrish, I wanna work for you forever!”
Before I could respond, I saw a tall figure.
Antonio walked into the meeting room with a big bouquet of bright red roses in his arms.
He feigned consideration and said gently, “I came in after I heard the meeting was over.
Grace, I got you the bouquet. I hope you like it.
“I’ve booked a restaurant downstairs. Let’s have dinner together, OK?”
There was a tinge of anticipation in his voice.
It was mixed with unmistakable confidence as if those unpleasant memories had never existed and we were still together.
My colleagues were stunned. They had all heard of him but never seen him in person.
Out of respect for me, they said nothing and walked out of the room.
I was with Antonio for six years, yet he had never given me flowers.
Presumably, he didn’t think I was worth it.
In my previous life, once, it was Blanche’s birthday, and she held a
concert.
Antonio rented the most luxurious mansion in Breguadale.
He even had 500,000 delicate Wabron roses airlifted from abroad to prepare the venue for her birthday party.

On her birthday, they played together, which became a trending topic.
Millions of netizens were witnesses of their love story and praised them as the most perfect match in Breguadale.
Yet, it was the first time I heard of the variety of Wabron roses.
Frowning, I said coldly, “Antonio, I have nothing to say to you.”
His tone softened. “Come on, Grace.”
But I could still tell he was confident in winning me back.
He still had that wrong impression that I’d come crawling over to him at
his beckon.
He continued, “I know I made mistakes. Give me a chance, OK?
“I remember when you sold fried food on the streets, you always said that you didn’t wanna be this tired anymore and wanted to open a flower shop.
“I can make that happen. I’m happy to help you with money.
“You can airlift flowers from abroad every day. How about that?”
As he said this, he forcefully stuffed the roses in my hand.
Yet, in the next second, I tossed them into the trash can without even looking at them.
All I felt was disgust.
I did everything I could so that he could continue playing the piano, and now, he acted like he was doing me a favor.
How absurd.
“Antonio, save your flowers for Blanche,” I said.

His gaze fell on the roses in the trash can, the confident look on his face vanishing.
He became furious and wanted to question me, only to be interrupted by someone stepping inside.
“If this is how you win a woman’s heart, you’re just a loser. Without an arranged marriage, you’ll spend the rest of your life being alone,” Benjamin mocked as he walked over and stood next to me.
As he was five cm higher than Antonio, he had to lower his head slightly when talking, seemingly disdainful of Antonio.
He then turned to me and leaned closer to my ear, saying, “I’m here to pick you up. Let’s go to my place for dinner.
“You’ve been in Speynia for years. I bet you crave the food here.”
I nodded happily. Seeing this, Antonio pulled a long face.
Clenching his fists, he said, his voice filled with suppressed fury, “Grace, is he the reason why you don’t wanna come home with me?”
Before I could respond, I heard Benjamin’s voice from behind me. “Mr. Kaufman, I’m not the reason.
“Grace wants nothing to do with you because you’re a piece of shit and don’t deserve her attention at all.
“She’s now Lightning Group’s General Manager of the Draenia region. The Group’s Chairman, Charlie Meyer, appointed her personally.
“Yet, you wanna confine her to a small flower shop? It’s at most, what, ten square meters, right?
“Is this how you love her? By wasting her talent? That’s just so lame.”

He accurately saw through and exposed Antonio, who glared at him with great hostility. In the next second, Antonio rushed over, grabbed him by the collar, and said loudly, “Who the fuck do you think you are?
“Grace and I have a daughter. She’s ten now.
“Grace, have you forgotten Kendall?”
Meeting Antonio’s eyes filled with anticipation, I felt sick.
Then I picked up my phone and said, “Come to the meeting room now.”
I planned to call security when Antonio was about to hit Benjamin.
The security arrived soon and restrained Antonio, who was rendered motionless.
Standing in front of him, I looked down at him and said to him coldly, “Before, you said you forgot everything, and our life back in town didn’t
count.
“You said you wanted to be with Blanche.
“Then how come you can remember the promise you made to me now? How amazing. It’s almost a medical miracle, don’t you think, Antonio?”
I exposed his lies. He had never lost his memory.
Flustered, he parted his lips several times, yet no word came out.
After a few seconds, he stuttered, “Grace, I… I’m
sorry…
I took Benjamin’s hand and left, not bothering to pay any attention to the ashamed expression on his face.
