When Sebastian rushed out of the villa with Charlotte, Evelyn was still sprawled on the floor, blood flowing down her neck.
She watched his back, so urgent, so frantic, never once looking back.
She was in excruciating pain, and suddenly remembered how he used to be so protective of her.
Back then, she sold fish at the seafood market, her hair in a simple ponytail, makeup–free, elegant and refined–the “Fishmonger Beauty” of the market.
The first time Sebastian saw her, he stood before her stall for two hours, then pulled out a black card:“Come with me. You’ll never have to touch these

Though poor, she possessed quiet dignity. She paused, then returned the card:“No, sir, I earn my living through hard
He gazed at her silently for a long time, then handed her a business card, his fingers long and clean:“I’m Sebastian Wolfe.
She didn’t take it seriously.
But the next day, he came again, in a black Maybach, standing incongruously in the fish market in a suit.
For three months, to pursue her, the Capitol Circle’s most prestigious golden boy did many outrageous things-
She rejected his roses, so he had people send expensive, air–freighted seafood to her stall every day;
She avoided his luxury car, so he walked through the fish market;
She said they were from different worlds, so he squatted by her fish–scaling station, helping her clean the fish.
He stood in her fish market for three months. Every time she rejected him, he’d return.
She wasn’t unmoved, but she was acutely aware of their differences, so she couldn’t, or dared not, reciprocate.

Until, finally, she agreed to be with him after he took a flask of sulfuric acid thrown by a rival vendor for her, burning a gruesock for t
At that moment, he was sweating profusely from the pain, yet still smiled at her, saying, “Evie, remember, you owe me your life. Pay your life.”
She wept, hot tears falling onto his palm.
After they became a couple, he spoiled her excessively.
She cut her finger while slicing fish, and he immediately summoned a private doctor;
She casually mentioned liking a certain cake, and he bought out the entire bakery;
She had menstrual cramps, so he stayed up all night massaging her belly.

Once, she fell and scraped her knee, and he was so distressed his eyes turned red, carrying her to the hospital with trembling hands. The doctor chuckled, saying it was only a minor scratch, yet he insisted on a CT scan, fearing she had a bone fracture.
And now-
Evelyn looked at the pool of blood, and suddenly laughed.
Laughing and laughing, the tears came down.
She took a cab to the hospital alone.
After her wound was treated, she was still too dizzy to stand, and as she left the clinic, her wrist was suddenly seized!
“Evelyn Grant!” Sebastian’s voice was laced with anger.“Charlotte almost miscarried, and you’re still not giving up, chasing here to make ble?”
She turned and saw his furrowed brow and the cold glint in his eyes.
He was dressed in a suit, as cold and elegant as ever, only with Charlotte’s perfume lingering on him.
“I came to the hospital…” her voice was barely audible,“….
…not to see her.”
She slowly raised her hand, pointing to her bandaged forehead:“I’m hurt too.”
Sebastian’s expression faltered, only then noticing her pale face and the bandage on her forehead.
“You said you’d take me away after she gave birth to the child,” Evelyn looked at him, her eyes red–rimmed.“B,, Sebastian’s brow furrowed deeper, reaching out to touch her wound:“What happened?”

“You pushed me,” she said calmly.“I hit the corner of the table.”
Sebastian’s pupils constricted, as if he only then recalled the scene.

His anger subsided, pulling her into his arms: “Evie, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. I was just afraid Charlotte would have a problem. She’s pregnant, and if something goes wrong, our departure will be delayed…”
Evelyn let him hold her, her gaze empty.
She’d heard these words too many times.
I understand,” she pushed him away.“Go take care of her.”
She turned to leave, but he grabbed her wrist again.
“Evie, no matter what, you must believe I only love you. Everything I’ve done is for us to leave quickly.”
He gently touched her bandage:“I’ll have the

Then, he let go and turned toward Charlotte’s ward.
Evelyn stood there, watching his tall figure gradually disappear.
She suddenly laughed, tears streaming down her face.
“I don’t believe you anymore…” she whispered.“Sebastian Wolfe, I don’t believe you at all.”
