Chapter 1
Two days before the wedding, my best friend asked me to test my fiancé.
She never believed that someone like Richard a notorious Alpha with a reputation as a player—would suddenly turn over a new leaf.
And her instincts were always spot–on.
So that night, I created a fake profile. Changed the avatar, the name, masked my scent with a pheromone blocker, and deliberately tried to seduce him.
Richard played along eagerly at first. Within a few messages, he had me blushing furiously.
Just as I was about to laugh it off, he suddenly sent me three messages:
[Let’s end this childish game right here.]
[I don’t touch other women. Not besides you… and her.]
[Next time you want to flirt with me, just use your real name, Laura.]
Laura.
That was my best friend’s name.
Staring at the screen, my mind went completely blank.
It felt like someone had struck me with a blunt weapon.
My blood turned to ice.
Hands trembling, I pinched myself, desperate to wake from this nightmare.
But it wasn’t a dream.
Richard cheated.
And the person he cheated with–was Laura.
My childhood best friend. The Omega I trusted most in this world.
But weren’t they supposed to hate each other?
Laura always looked down on Richard, said he was just some wild Alpha riding on his family’s name.
And Richard—every time he and I had a fight, Laura would play peacemaker. He’d call her nosy, annoying, a buzzkill.
The video call ringtone snapped me out of my thoughts.
It was Richard.
Expressionless, I declined the call.
Seconds later, my phone lit up with a barrage of messages:
[Why didn’t you answer?]
[Is my little Omega pouting again?]
[Come find me at Night Hall. I’ll make it up to you.]
[Don’t worry. Even after I finalize the mate bond, I’ll still treat you well.]
(Whatever Fiona gets, you’ll get too.]

[Including me.]
I stared at the screen, frozen.
My body went cold.
A buzzing filled my ears, drowning out everything.
And then the tears started–hot and unstoppable.
In my mind, I replayed the day I first brought Laura to Night Hall.
It was one of Richard’s private territories–where he and his Alpha brothers hung out, rehearsed, had meals.
After we started dating, he’d set up a room there just for me.
I hadn’t said a word that day, but Laura walked straight to my room.
She even joked, “The scent here is so strong, I knew exactly where you are just by smelling it.”
Her phone had already connected to the home Wi–Fi.
She explained, “Maybe your password’s too simple. I must’ve logged in by accident.”
My aloof little gray wolf pup–usually indifferent to strangers—had snuggled right up to her, licking her fingers like she was family.
At her place, I’d spotted the same perfume I used, a tailored Alpha suit like Richard’s, a rare aromatherapy candle I’d given him, even some handmade soap I’d crafted myself.
She said her suitors gave her those things:
I didn’t question it. I thought she was just embarrassed to admit the truth.
The three of us once went shopping together.
Laura and Richard had a loud argument in front of me.
I’d even stepped in to mediate, urging them to get along.
Later, when they stopped fighting, I actually felt relieved–thinking they were finally warming up to each other.
Now I know.
I was just a pawn in their flirting game, kept completely in the dark.
