Chapter 2
My eyes were so swollen from crying I could barely open them, but my mind had never been clearer.
I grabbed my car keys and slammed the gas pedal, speeding straight toward Night Hall.
From a distance, I saw a rowdy crowd of Alphas and Betas gathered around the pool, throwing a wild party.
Richard was drunk–his cheeks flushed, and that same arrogant glint still lingered in his eyes.
He had one arm wrapped around Laura’s waist, murmuring something into her ear.
She playfully pushed him away, only for him to pull her into the pool with a splash.
She screamed, and laughter erupted all around them.
Richard surfaced from the water, scooped her into his arms, and pressed her against the pool’s edge in a deep, hungry kiss.
Whistles and cheers echoed around them.
Someone popped open a champagne bottle. Someone else recorded a video.
A third person joked:
“Richard, your Mating Ceremony with Fiona is the day after tomorrow. Isn’t it a little messed up to be all over her best friend tonight?”
“Hahaha! Come on, as long as we don’t say anything, how would Fiona ever know? Even if something really happens with Laura tonight, she’d still be clueless.”
“Told you! Richard hasn’t changed a bit. You had us fooled chasing after Fiona–I almost believed you were trying to turn over a new leaf.”
After that kiss, Richard leaned back with a smug grin, the wildness of a dominant Alpha flashing in his eyes.
“I do love Fiona. She’s the only she–wolf I want to marry.
“But to expect me to only sleep with her while I’m still young…
He leaned in and kissed the breathless Laura again, then added lazily: “I just can’t.”
He carried Laura out of the pool and laid her down on a lounge chair.
Someone handed him a towel, but he yanked it away and tossed it over Laura instead.
Her eyes were red as she looked up at him.
“Richard, are you going home tonight?”
He bent down, pinching her cheek softly.
“Fiona cares about you most. She hates to see you cry. Of course I’m staying to comfort you.”
Then he turned to a Beta and said,
“Tell Luna I’m too drunk to drive. I’m not going home tonight. I’ll pick her up tomorrow for the Mating Ceremony rehearsal.”
My phone buzzed right after.
A message from the Beta:
[Luna, Alpha’s drunk. He won’t be coming back tonight. Get some rest–he’ll pick you up
I stood there for a long time, motionless.
My mind wandered through a thousand memories.
