Chapter 7
A cigarette still burned between his fingers–a special type of Alpha–calming tobacco. He took a deep drag, then crushed it against the
floor.
The face that once made my heart race was now wrapped in pale smoke, blurred like a shattered illusion, steeped in absurdity and ruin.
My breath caught. I picked up my pace.
“Don’t go…” he said hoarsely.
I didn’t stop.
“I said don’t go!” he shouted.
The next second, he sprang up, closed the distance in a few strides, kicked over my suitcase, and grabbed my shoulders, yanking me
toward him.
He kissed me–hard.
His Alpha pheromones, laced with the bitter scent of smoke, alcohol, and unhinged desire, wrapped around me like a storm. I fought back with everything I had, but it felt like sinking into a swamp–the more I struggled, the deeper I was pulled in.
Tears welled up and spilled over. The moment I managed to break free, I slapped him–hard.
“Richard! Get the hell away from me!!”
He slowly turned his head, eyes dark and feral.
In the blink of an eye, he hoisted me over his shoulder like prey and stormed upstairs.
“You’re insane!! Let me go!!” I screamed, pounding against his back.
Useless.
He threw me onto the bed in the master bedroom, still draped in the wedding veil.
Dizzy, breathless, I watched him take off his coat and climb over me.
Cold fingers brushed away the tears at the corner of my eyes. His breath fell hot on my
“Fiona,” he whispered, his voice rough, “What Alpha hasn’t cheated? I’m no saint.”

“Yes, I said I couldn’t sleep with you.”

“Why is it that you only heard the first half?”
My sobs grew uncontrollable.
How did I… how did I ever fall for a man like this?
“You disgust me!! You make me sick!!”
“Let me go! I never want to see you again!”
Richard’s brow furrowed. His emotions were unraveling fast.
A few seconds passed, and then he gave a crooked, twisted smile.
“Once you’re carrying my pup, you won’t be so eager to leave me.”
“Fiona, let’s have a little wolf pup together…”

I went cold all over, like someone had dropped me into an ice pit.
As he lowered himself again, I completely broke down and fought back with all I had.
“Alpha?!”
A familiar male voice rang out from outside–it was his Beta.
“Alpha, where are you? We’ve got an emergency!”
Richard froze mid–motion.
I took the chance, wriggled free, and sprinted barefoot out of the bedroom.
His Beta was just coming the stairs, stunned to see me burst out.
I didn’t stop–I bolted past him, down the staircase, out into the main hall. I didn’t look back.
I grabbed my suitcase and ran out of the villa
jumping straight into the car I’d called ahead of time.
With one slam of the gas, I sped out of Richard’s territory.
Not until I was hundreds of meters away did I finally ease off the gas.
Outside, the night pressed down thick and heavy–but behind me, it felt like the castle was still trembling.
I pressed my hand to my chest. My heart wouldn’t stop pounding, and my tears just wouldn’t stop
Before the wedding, I had requested a year–long leave from my Mate Ceremony.
There had been two months of honeymoon scheduled after the ceremony.
Now that the wedding had become a joke, the honeymoon, of course, was gone.
Rumors were flying all over the Northern Pack Territories.
Everyone was talking about how I’d stormed out of the wedding.
The gossip was suffocating–I couldn’t show my face, and I couldn’t drown it out with work either.
So, I made a decision–to leave everything behind and travel alone.
The day before I left, I visited my birth parents‘ graves.
I knelt before them, quietly recounting everything that had happened.
“Good thing you didn’t see the wedding. You’d have been heartbroken.”
“Especially if you saw me in a wedding dress, full of hope… I’d have probably broken down the moment either of you spoke.”
My father had been a long–haul freight driver, rarely home for days at a time.
Summer fruit season was his busiest time–he drove through all kinds of weather.
My mother stayed home, taking care of everything else–me, the house, even doing crafts for extra income.
They gave me all the warmth and protection they could.
As I sat there, lost in memory, I suddenly sensed a presence beside me.
I turned my head.
Richard was standing there–pale as death.
