Chapter 8
My knees nearly gave out.
Clearly, he hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from me. After a stunned pause, he finally spoke in a low voice.
“I’m sorry… for that night… for forcing you.”
“These past few days, I’ve been thinking–what I did was unforgivable.‘
“I just… I think we should talk.”
His gaze dropped, guilt written across his face.

If it were the past–after one of our arguments–just seeing him look like that would’ve made me cave and throw myself into his arms.
But now? All I felt was cold, bone–deep. My voice was sharp and cutting: “There’s nothing to talk about. Leave. I don’t want to see you.”
He reached toward me, hesitated, then pulled his hand back.
His eyes reddened, his fists clenched… then slowly loosened.
I don’t know how long we stood there. Finally, he looked at me, murmured, “I’m sorry,” and turned to leave.
His silhouette, swallowed by wind and dusk, stretched long across the ground.
A crouched at my parents‘ grave, and for the first time that day, the tears fell.
The next morning, I woke early, grabbed my suitcase, and headed to the airport.
Just before boarding, my phone rang. It was Richard’s Beta.
“Richard was in a car crash on the way home.”
“It’s bad. He’s refusing treatment.”
“Can you come talk to him?”
I frowned and stayed silent as the boarding call echoed from the terminal.
The Beta’s voice suddenly jumped in panic. “You’re at the airport?!”
“Yes,” I replied calmly “I’m leaving.”
“Luna, if Alpha doesn’t get treated, he might not make it.”
My voice didn’t waver. “Richard and I are nothing now. I won’t worry about him just because he’s hurt. I’m not going back.”
“I will never forgive what he did to me.”
Harsh breathing crackled through the phone.
And then, the Beta snapped.
“Luna!! How can you be so heartless?!”
“Alpha’s on the edge of death and you’re saying that?! You want him to die?!”
Do you even know how furious his parents were after you humiliated him at the ceremony? If he hadn’t taken the punishment to protect you, you’d be dead by now!”
“He was whipped to protect you! He still went to pick you up! And now he’s dying, and you just walk away?! What kind of monster are you?!”

“He treasures you! He begged for your forgiveness! And you–this is how cold you are?!”
My throat tightened, but I forced my voice through gritted teeth.
“If he truly treasured me, he wouldn’t have hooked up with Laura.”
“And you–you were never any better.”
“He claimed he changed, but he still hung out with the same pack of scumbags like you. I should’ve known–he was never any different.”
“Fiona!!”
I hung up.
Grabbing my suitcase, I walked to the gate without looking back.
Over the next two months, I traveled alone.
Snow–covered peaks. Ancient forests. Endless deserts. Misty caves. The deep–sea trench.
I threw myself into every wild, terrifying, beautiful corner of the world. Pushing my body. Reclaiming my soul.
Along the way, I had conversations I’d never had before–with myself, with the world, with the life I wanted to live.
My skin was darker. My claws were stronger.
But more importantly, my heart was tougher. My spirit freer.
I had finally stepped into the world as an independent Omega–where the rules weren’t submission and dependence, but freedom, wealth, health, and strength.
Inspired and reborn, I returned to work.
As a werewolf mating ceremony designer, I soared to new heights in our society. I also began exploring new creative paths.
Richard’s name only came up in whispers, here and there, over a drink.
“He’s back to his old ways,” someone murmured.
Drowning in booze at shady bars.
Never showing up twice with the same woman.
Skipping pack council meetings. Ignoring his family’s affairs.
The Alpha leadership seat remained vacant for a while.
As for racing–he was driving like he had a death wish.
I listened. Felt nothing.
No bitterness. No heartbreak. Not even closure.
I had already… truly let go.
reached for
That evening, after work, I walked into the underground parking garage and reached for my keys.
Suddenly, a hand clamped over my mouth and nose from behind.
A strange herbal scent flooded my senses, thick and disorienting.
I blacked out.
