Chapter 2
Leah looked down at me condescendingly.
I slowly stood up, took out a handkerchief from my pocket, and carefully wiped the stains from my face.
Then I looked at Pierce.
He frowned, then avoided my gaze and chose silence.
I suddenly smiled.
Speaking into my phone that was still on a call: “Dad, did you hear that?“]
“They told me to get lost.”
There was a brief silence on the other end, then a deep, authoritative voice came through.
“understand. I’ll handle
it.“I
The only reason I came to work
was because of a
childhood arrangement my grandfather had made years ago.]]
Pierce was my fiancé.]]
I didn’t like arranged marriages, but my father was always nagging, even threatening to pressure me with accusations of being “unfilial.”
I could only agree.]]
To help us deepen our relationship, my father had me join Blake Group.[
During the six months I worked for my fiancé, although I spent most of my time playing games like a lazy vagrant, I still quietly used all the resources available to me to improve the company’s performance, even helping Blake Group go public.
Blake Group had leaped to become a highly regarded enterprise, and Pierce had made it onto New York’s richest list.
Despite all my help, Pierce and I rarely communicated.[]
From our few dates, I learned that he only knew I was his childhood fiancée and didn’t know my true
identity.

I sat back down in the corner chair, took out my phone, and continued the game that had been interrupted.]
On the screen, my character revived, and I operated rapidly with my fingers, as if the tense atmosphere in the conference room had nothing to do with
- me.
Leah’s face went from red to black. Obviously, she hadn’t expected me to so blatantly ignore her authority.[]
She slammed the table hard, her voice sharp: “Serena! Do you think this is some kind of joke?”
“Everyone is focused on the meeting, and you’re the only one playing games?”
I sheered: “I’ve already met my annual performance targets. What’s wrong with playing games?“[]
“Leave now, or I’ll call security!“]
I didn’t even look up and replied: “Do whatever you want.”
The other executives exchanged glances.
Some looked down and pretended to flip through their documents, while others secretly glanced at Pierce, waiting for his reaction.]
Chapter 2
Pierce finally stood up.[]
He wore a crisp black suit, his expression cold and serious.[]
He looked at me, his eyes showing a hint of impatience and indifference.]
“Serena, your performance is good.“[]
Pierce’s voice was calm but carried undeniable authority.]
“But this is a company, not your home.“]
“Please leave the conference room immediately and don’t disrupt the meeting.“]]
My fingers paused, and my game character died again.]
I looked up, met Pierce’s gaze, and showed a mischievous smile: “Pierce, are you sure you want to kick me out?“]]
Pierce frowned, his tone becoming even colder.[]
“I don’t want to repeat myself. If you have any professional integrity, you should know what the bottom line is.“]]
“What if I don’t want to
leave?”
“Then don’t blame me for being
thless.”
Seeing Pierce take her side, Leah suddenly became bold.]
She quickly rushed to me and slapped the phone out of my hand.[]
