Chapter 64
At 4:01 PM. Bradley was in the middle of a meeting when his phone buzzed. The award results had been out for barely a minute when Melissa’s call came through
“I did it Bradley, I got first place! Tim the winner! I’m officially joining the Parvati!” Melissa exclaimed, her excited voice practically blasting through Bradley’s eardrum.
Even the staff tumed in the conference room, curious to know who dared to shout like that to Bradley
Surprisingly. Bradley didn’t lose his temper. He just frowned slightly and said in a calm voice, “Okay, you won. No need to yell”
Melissa, still over the moon, bounced on her couch. “Curtis is mine now! I’m picking him up today!” she said excitedly.
Bradley gave a faint, almost imperceptible smile but replied with a serious tone, “We’ll talk after work. I’m busy.”
Without waiting for her response, Bradley hung up and turned back to the room. “Ler’s continue.”
Melissa sat cross–legged on her couch, her grin as wide as ever. Then she double–checked the award list just to make sure, laughing to herself like a fool
A few moments Later, Melissa sent Scott a text. I won! Thank you so much!]
About thirty minutes later, Scott called back, sounding just as thrilled. “Sorry, I was stuck in a meeting! I saw your name, though. Congratulations, Melissal Looks like we’re colleagues now!”
Melissa nodded eagerly, even though he couldn’t see it. I can’t thank you enough for this she answered.
Scout laughed warmly. “Don’t be silly. I just passed along the invite from the manager. It’s all you. How about this, dinner’s on me tonight to celebrate?”
Hearing this, Melissa hesitated. She knew she should be the one treating him, but she was flat broke and couldn’t afford even a modest dinner-
Feeling awkward, Melissa said. “Thanks, and I really owe you one. But I’ve got something I can’t miss tonight. Rain check?”
It was an excuse, but Melissa did have other plans. She needed to pick up Curtis.
Though clearly disappointed, Scott laughed it off and said. “Of course. You’re probably swamped with preparations. Once you’ve settled into the job, we’ll celebrate properly
Melissa had first met Scott after she took a year off from college, joining his class later on. They hadn’t been particularly close back then, but this time around, she found his kindness comforting, like a warm breeze.
Melisa tucked away her gratitude and made a mental note to treat him to dinner, and maybe a gift after her first paycheck.
Not long after, the Parvati called to confirm

To keep Curtis from worrying. Melissa said simply, “Your dad said you can stay with me for a little while”
They parked a small bag together happily, their excitement uncontainable. Still, Melisa knew she had to wait for Bradley to come home before taking Curtis away
When the sound of a car pulling into the driveway reached her cars, Melissa shot up, more excited than Curtis. She ran outside to greet Bradley practically, taking Les Griefcase with a cheerful smile. “We’re ready to go. We’ll head back now”
