Liam clearly froze, but I did not give him a chance to respond. I instantly ended the call.
I listened, a bit stunned, to the tone of Lily’s voice. Why did she sound so cold? She had always been so gentle toward me.
What did she mean by wishing Eva and me happiness? Could it be that she knew something?
A strange sense of irritation welled up in my chest. I tried to sit up, but just then, Eva leaned in close, asking for a kiss.
If it had been in the past, I would have given her a passionate kiss without hesitation. This time, though, all I felt was frustration. I shoved her away forcefully and, thinking about the gift Lily mentioned, hurried back home.
It was true. I hadn’t returned home in a long time. When I got back, I was instantly enveloped by a heavy sense of cold
emptiness.
The gift Lily had mentioned was sitting alone on the table. I looked at the note and suddenly felt a tightness in my chest. Was

But how could she be so cruel, using our child’s life to provoke me?

I shouted as I searched every corner of the house for signs of Lily, but I received no response at all. Looking at the report in
my hand, a wave of anger surged inside me.
Had Lily really fallen so low that she would use such a clumsy trick to get my attention? With her personality, if she had truly lost the baby, how could she not be curled up in my arms, crying?
I figured she just wanted more of my concern. But she should never have done it this way.
I crumpled the report in my hand. I had to find Lily and tell her that someone who cursed her own child for sympathy did not
deserve to be a mother. She certainly did not deserve to be my Luna.
I ordered the Gamma to help me find out where Lily had gone. Two days later, the Gamma brought back a piece of news that
left me completely stunned.
Lily had gone to the Elder Council two days ago and submitted her Luna badge. I thought Lily must be out of her mind. To get
my attention, she was willing to threaten me with her Luna status.
“Prepare to depart for the Howl of the Moon Pack.”
