“Is this wedding happening? Just say if not, don’t waste our time!”
“Exactly, who cares who she marries, they’re family.”
“Honestly, Ryan has run away 99 times; it’s obvious he doesn’t want to marry Tessa. Only Tessa, being so lovesick, would put up with this; anyone else would’ve called off the engagement by now!”
“Don’t call me a conspiracy theorist, but that box only has runaway slips, doesn’t it?”
Hearing that, Ryan panicked.
“Don’t talk nonsense! The box was fair. Tessa picked all the slips herself!
“Tessa, say something!”
I took a deep breath and smiled.
“I did draw them myself.”
“You hear that?” Ryan lifted his chin proudly.
“But… was it really fair? I mean, pulling the same thing every single time? Who can say for sure?”
Ryan’s face froze.
I went on, “The drawing I just held was legit. So, the wedding goes on!
“The groom–Nathan Bennett!”
The crowd instantly burst into thunderous applause.

Jenna shrieked in a high–pitched voice, “I disagree! Tessa, you’re a fickle woman! You accepted the emerald bracelet meant for my only son’s wife, and now you want to marry someone else!
“Nathan! You’re back to steal your brother’s wife? Shameless! And your slutty-”

“Shut up!”
Jenna held her cheek, staring at Albert in disbelief.
“You slapped me? You hit me for that bastard?! Albert, your son’s fiancée is being taken and you-”

Jenna was knocked to the
ground.
Guests in the crowd whispered and pointed, stunned by the drama.
“The world is upside down. The mistress calling the legitimate wife’s son a bastard? What a joke.”
“I’ve never liked these two. They’ve been bullying Tessa just because she’s got no parents to stand up for her.”
“Serves them right!”
“Jenna, are you talking about this bracelet?”
I signaled to my assistant to bring it up.
“Everyone, take a look. This is the family heirloom emerald bracelet she gave me. I’m giving it back now.”

“Wait!” Someone stepped forward to block me, a hint of doubt in their
voice.
I looked confused. “What’s wrong?”
The man narrowed his eyes at me. “That bracelet is obviously fake. No way it’s a real family heirloom.”
I covered my mouth in shock. “But that’s the one Jenna gave me.”
I turned to look at Jenna, who was still slumped on the ground. “Right, Jenna?”

Jenna’s face went pale, and she mumbled incoherently, unable to form a single word.
Seeing her like that, it was obvious to everyone.
“Wow. The audacity…”
“This is insane. Giving fake jewelry to your future daughter–in–law?”
“Is there anything this family can’t do?”
People rolled their eyes, whispering and scoffing, nearly tearing Jenna apart with their words.
Unable to take the humiliation, she fainted on the spot.
“That’s enough! Tessa, don’t push it too far!”
Ryan snapped in a low voice, “She’s your mother–in–law. How can you treat her like that?”
I mimicked Nathan’s tone and said, “If I remember correctly, my mother- in–law’s been dead for years. May I ask who she is?”

Ryan closed his eyes, trying to control his anger.
“Fine, my mom was out of line, but you’re not innocent either.

“You took that bracelet before we were even married! She was just trying to test you, who knew you were so materialistic?
“Now! Apologize to my mom, and I’ll forgive you.”
I was stunned–yet again–by how shameless he could be.
Then I felt something cool touch my wrist and glanced down.
“Tessa, this is the bracelet my mother picked out for her future daughter- in–law before she passed.
“I’m giving it to you now. I hope you don’t mind.”
The emerald bracelet was like something carved from ice, smooth, crystal- clear, and clearly worth a fortune.
I felt a little unworthy. “It’s too valuable. I can’t-”
Nathan looked at me calmly but intensely. “Tessa, will you accept it?”
The way he looked at me made it impossible to say no.
So, I just simply nodded.
