I gasped in surprise, a wave of joy and excitement blooming in my chest.
“Yeah, it’s me.”
“That’s amazing!”
As soon as I heard his confirmation, I threw my arms around the man. The joy of getting him back after thinking I’d lost him filled my heart completely.
“But… I thought you died.”
Dusty gently wiped my tears with his hand, his eyes full of tenderness that felt endless.
“I told you I’d always protect you. My real name is Kaelen Deep.”
Kaelen Deep!
The legendary divine beast that had lived for ten thousand years–Kaelen, the Nine–Tailed Celestial Fox!
Damn, I actually just landed myself a god–tier protector!
In the beast realm, just like in the human world, there were social classes.
Beastmen like Blair were the lowest, destined to be servants. Some were a bit higher and got to live free lives. Then there were powerful leaders like the Beast King.
But someone like Kaelen, who had lived for ten thousand years and still hadn’t died, was in a completely different league. He was what they called a divine beast.
He had surpassed the ranks of ordinary beastmen and was halfway into the divine realm of immortals. In all the history of beastkin, there had been a few divine beasts–like dragons, unicorns, and celestial wolves.
Most of them had ascended into the heavens to become immortals after reaching enlightenment. But down here in the mortal world, only Kaelen, the gray fox, was left.
At this point, Kaelen might just be the strongest being in existence. He was basically the ruler of this world.
“What are you thinking about?”
Kaelen kissed my hair, sounding a little annoyed that I’d spaced out.
I couldn’t hold back the excitement in my chest.
