I watched as Bobby carefully unfolded the scrap in his palm and mumbled, “This isn’t just a piece of cloth. This fabric is from the very dress Mrs. Finch wore when she was still alive. It’s not just a piece of cloth.”
My vision blurred. I didn’t expect Bobby to care so much about me. He could even recognize that scrap of fabric from the clothes I was wearing before being thrown into the water tank.
And Zachary—my so–called husband–knew nothing. He refused to believe I was gone.
This was all just a sick joke.

Once they finished cleaning the scene, Zachary strode forward and shouted into the hollow shell of the tank, “Sarah! This little game has gone on long enough. Get out here and apologize to Nina. Now!”
No one responded
Zachary’s face stiffened. He suppressed the panic in his heart and continued in a steady voice, “Sarah, if you don’t want to risk a complicated delivery, you’d better get out here and apologize. After that, I’ll send you to the hospital!”
I couldn’t stop laughing as I doubled over. “How touching. You actually remembered the babies, huh?”
Every second stretched on endlessly. Zachary’s patience wore thin. “Sarah, do you want me to come in there and drag you out myself? If that’s what you want, just say the word.”
I glanced at the massive tank towering 16 feet high. Even now, I still felt a sliver of instinctual fear.
