It was a simple question, but Raine thought I was being sarcastic
“That’s right! Are you proud of yourself? Are you happy knowing Bruno will only marry you? After all, you love him enough to make way for him.”
Raine conveniently ignored that I had sold my shares and transferred all my money abroad in her anger. If I still had hope for Bruno, why would I do that?
But she came up with her own explanation, anyway.
“You just want to use your shares to control him! Now, you don’t even need the money, and he’ll still marry you. In that case,
let me guess what you’re planning to use the money for next.”
Raine lowered her eyes as they darkened. Then, she let out an icy laugh.
“You probably want to use the money to make Bruno cut ties with me! But I’m telling you right now–dream on!”
At her words, I paused for a moment. Why would anyone still like such a despicable man? No wonder people online say jerks
and gold–diggers were made for each other.
Well, I had no desire to waste any more time with someone like her.
Thankfully, the race was over.
I saw Liam running toward me, excited to share the joy of winning third place. From the corner of my eye, I saw Raine get up
and lunge at me despite her pregnant belly.
My eyes widened as my mind went into overdrive.
How should I survive this set–up?
If I dodged to the side, Raine would definitely fall to the ground because of inertia.
If I didn’t dodge, Raine would twist it by mentioning how serious her injuries were. In short, turning it into a scam!
A scam that disregarded the baby’s safety!
As all the thoughts played in my mind, everything happened in an instant.
Suddenly, I was yanked out of the way by a powerful arm and ended up in Liam’s embrace. He glared at Raine, who was lying
on the ground.
“What are you doing? Are you trying to pull something on her?”
Before he could say more, a hysterical wail pierced our ears.
