Leroy’s voice cut through the air. “Darling!”
Jolie jumped and quickly hung up the phone, hiding it behind her back.
“Who are you waiting for?” He narrowed his eyes, watching her with a dark, unreadable smile.
The next second, his hand closed around her throat, his eyes cold as frost.
“What now? Another faked death in the works? Or is there some other
man?”
“Darling, I told you–once Jane’s better, I’ll make it up to you. Do you still not believe me?”
His grip tightened, stealing her breath. Jolie struggled to speak. “I meant… Nikita. She doesn’t know where the wedding’s being held.”
His fingers finally eased up, and she gasped for air. But then came the kiss–brutal and suffocating.
He devoured her lips, draining what little strength still lingered in her body. One hand flipped her over, yanked up her dress, and forced his way in. Jolie gritted her teeth, enduring the storm.
An hour later, he finally pulled away and pressed a soft kiss to her brow.
“Darling, never betray me. Understand? Don’t forget that tracker in your body. I designed it myself.”
His fingers toyed with hers, stopping at the ring on her left hand–a

“Oh, by the way. Jane said she wants to wear this Eternal Love ring for the ceremony. Be good, give it to her.”
Jolie’s eyes burned red. “Leroy, that ring was proof of our love. Doesn’t it mean anything to you?”
He only kissed her fingertips and smiled like he was soothing a child.
“It’s just a ring. I can give you a dozen more. Don’t be stubborn.”
Right. Just a ring. It meant nothing to him–only whether Jane was happy.
With tears in her eyes, Jolie slowly slipped the ring off, leaving behind a pale circle where it used to be.
After Leroy left, Jolie sat still for a moment, then immediately began packing. He had given her more assets than she could count.
But she wasn’t stupid. Long before she made up her mind to leave, she’d quietly liquidated everything. The money was already sitting safely in UBS.
With Nikita to care for, she needed that security for the road ahead.
Anything she couldn’t take, she tossed into a metal barrel she’d hidden in the backyard–photos, matching outfits, the 999 love letters he wrote while chasing her…
And last, a notebook he’d filled over the years with meticulous notes about her habits, her routines, and every little thing he thought would bring her comfort.
The fire crackled as everything went up in flames. The love he claimed to give her was now turning to ash.
