Chapter 9
In the wedding banquet hall, a furious roar tore through the air.
“What? You didn’t find them?!
“Who the hell did this?
“Who is dropping those photos of Jane at a time like this? Who is trying to destroy her reputation?!”
Crash!
The glass in Leroy’s hand flew across the room, smashing straight into the forehead of a bodyguard. Red bloomed across the man’s skin as shattered glass exploded on the floor.
“Turn New York upside down if you have to–I want the person behind this found!” His rage filled every inch of the room.
The row of men standing before him didn’t dare make a sound.
One of them, bolder than the rest, stepped forward and muttered, “Mr. Gibson, ever since Ms. Cunningham came back, Mrs. Yost hasn’t been herself. Could it be…”
He didn’t finish, but the implication was clear. Leroy’s eyes turned sharp
and cold.
“Where is she now?”
The assistant pulled up her tracker. It showed Jolie had returned to the house, still in the same guest room they’d assigned her before.

Leroy crushed out his cigarette, that icy image of Jolie’s expression before the ceremony flashing through his mind. For some reason, it unsettled him. He didn’t really believe she’d done it.
But right now, she was the most suspicious.
“To the house.”
Just as they were about to head out, the assistant picked up a call.
“Mr. Gibson, the photos–someone’s using them for blackmail. Says he’s got plenty more. He wants 1.5 million dollars to make it all go away.”
Leroy let out a slow breath. So it wasn’t Jolie.
“If it’s just money, that’s easy. Pay him. Get every last photo. And as for the guests, make sure not a single word gets out. You know what to do.”
With that, he turned to the driver. “We’re going back to Jane’s place.”
After the photos fell, he rushed Jane to a room on the top floor of the
venue.
When he arrived again, she was sobbing uncontrollably, mascara streaked down her cheeks, a fruit knife clutched in her trembling hand.
“Roy, I don’t want to live anymore.” When Jane saw Leroy, the words slipped from her throat in a faint whisper. “Those photos… they were all taken when I was locked up… they forced me…
Leroy pulled her into his arms, his voice gentle. “Alright. I’ve already warned the guests at the event. Nothing’s getting out.”
“Really? Then who’s behind this? Who’s trying to ruin me… is it… Jolie?” She sniffled through her sobs. “Ever since I came back, she’s hated me. Is it because I took you from her…”

Before she could finish, Leroy cut her off coldly. “It’s not Jolie. She’s not that kind of person. Don’t say another word.”
Jane shut her mouth at once. After a long pause, she clung to Leroy and asked, “Roy, do you think I’m filthy too? Like everyone else?”
Images of those disturbing photos flashed through his mind. Honestly, they were hard to stomach.
He hesitated, and just then, Jane suddenly pressed a blade to her wrist. “You’re silent… that means you’re disgusted. I get it!”
A thin line of blood appeared. Leroy slapped the knife out of her hand, eyes filled with anguish.
“Jane, don’t do this. I don’t care about any of that. I just want you safe.”
He couldn’t bear to lose her again. But no matter how hard he tried, the resistance in his heart refused to fade.
For now, all he could do was calm her down.
It took a long while before she finally fell asleep in his arms.
Leroy started to pull away, but the sleeping Jane clutched his hand tightly. “Roy, don’t leave me. Please don’t leave me, okay?”
He paused, then lay back down, wrapping an arm around her.
But through the long, silent night, he couldn’t sleep at all. Leroy reached for his phone and dialed Jolie’s number. No answer.
After five or six attempts, he stared at her GPS location, deep in thought. Then he called the butler.
“Where is Jolie? Why isn’t she answering?”

“Mr. Gibson, Mrs. Yost said she was exhausted when she got home and asked not to be disturbed. She didn’t want to see anyone.”
“Wake her up. Tell her to take my call.”
