Chapter 20
Jolie returned home and breathed a sigh of relief.
“Kaeden, thank you for saving my sister.”
Kaeden lowered his gaze, smiling as he gently stroked Nikita’s hair. “Mrs. Yost, protecting you is my responsibility.”
Jolie hesitated for a moment, looking at him with some guilt. “Sorry, I used you as an excuse to get away from Leroy just now.
Kaeden shook his head, knowing full well that Leroy had already fired him. He actually had no need to continue guarding Jolie. But for some reason, without protecting Jolie, he felt like he had suddenly lost his purpose and became incredibly empty.
At least for now, he couldn’t find any other reasons to leave Jolie’s side.
After Jolie was sent to Canada, Kaeden became worried, so worried that he couldn’t sleep. Even though Leroy punished him for his failure to protect her, he had never felt so anxious before.
Seeing Jolie again, he finally understood. She was the one he had always wanted to protect in his life.
“Kaeden, I heard Leroy say that you were fired, which means you don’t have to protect me in secret anymore, you are free now.”
Upon hearing her words, Kaeden inexplicably felt a wave of loss wash over him.
He frowned and, after a moment of searching for a lame excuse, said,

“Yes, I am no longer working for Leroy, but I can’t find any other job. Can I stay here and do odd jobs?”
“Do odd jobs? Jolie chuckled for a moment.”
The private bodyguard of the prince of New York’s elite working as a handyman in a small shop like this seems a bit of a waste of talent.
Kaeden noticed Jolie’s hesitation and paused before adding, “Actually, I just don’t want to live in fear and violence anymore. I want a peaceful and stable life from now on. You see, I can protect you and Nikita here. It’s a good deal for you.”
After a few seconds of contemplation, Jolie beamed a bright smile and said, “Sure, welcome aboard.”
Not far away, Leroy watched them holding hands, consumed with jealousy.
Before long, Leroy finished the phone call and was shaking all over with
anger.
Kaeden turned out to be the person who helped Jolie escape to Canada.
He gritted his teeth, his eyes narrowing in anger. “Zachary, help me with something. He took Jolie away, and I want to make that bastard pay.”
As for Kaeden, he felt for the first time that ordinary life was so comforting.
Perhaps because of Jolie, his poker–faced expression suddenly softened into a faint smile of happiness.
Kaeden almost monopolized the heavy work in Jolie’s shop. This man was not talkative, but reliable and practical, with a keen eye for work. Not only that, his appearance and figure were also excellent, and many young

But whenever this happened, Kaeden would politely and sincerely refuse, “I don’t have any great abilities, I’m not someone worth entrusting, sorry.”
He used to be a top–notch mercenary, and after retiring, he was the talent that scions and heiresses in the circle were eager to obtain. However, he said he didn’t have any special skills.
“Kaeden, you should find a girlfriend now. You are no longer scraping by on the edge of a knife. Have you ever thought about your own happiness? Jolie couldn’t help but cover her smile.”

Every time at this moment, Kaeden would always curl his lips slightly and say in a light tone, “I am a person with little luck, not suitable, afraid of causing trouble to others.”
Upon hearing this, Jolie felt incredibly lonely but still smiled and joked, “Now that you mention it, I must be lucky too. No wonder we ended up opening a store together.”
Kaeden immediately realized that he had said the wrong thing. Through Jolie’s expression, he saw a hint of melancholy hidden beneath her optimism.
But he has always been bad at comforting people. After thinking for a while, he could only manage to say, “You are good.”
Jolie saw his expression, which looked so pitiful that she wanted to cry, and couldn’t help but burst out laughing because his expression was just
too cute.
When Kaeden saw Jolie’s smile, he couldn’t help but pause for a second.
