Chapter13
Kael’s POV
“Alpha Kael!” an angry voice shouted from the audience. “What are you doing?!”
Ethan stormed onto the stage, his wolf radiating a powerful, protective scent for his mate.
“Let her go!” he pulled Selene up and shielded her behind him. “Selene is mourning Clara! What right do you have to humiliate
her like this?”
The guests below began to whisper.
“Has Alpha Kael lost his mind from grief?”
“To do this at a memorial… it’s too much.”
“Poor Selene. She’s already lost her sister, and now she has to endure this…”
Kael looked at Ethan with cold contempt.
“You want to protect her?” his voice echoed clearly through the hall. “Do you even know what your mate has done?”
“I don’t care what she’s done, at an event like this-
“You don’t care?” Kael sneered. “Then let me make you care.”
He took out a silver crystal orb, a relic used by werewolves to store and play back psychic imprints.
“This contains recordings of the private mind–links Selene initiated with me.”
The orb began to glow, and Selene’s alluring voice filled the hall:
“Kael, I can’t stand Ethan anymore… he’s too weak… If I break my mate bond, will you mark me?”
“I need a strong Alpha like you…”
“My wolf calls for you every day…”
The hall fell into a dead silence.
Everyone stared at Selene in shock.
Her face was as white as a sheet.
“That’s… that’s not real…” she stammered. “It’s a fake…”
“A fake?” Kael produced several audio recorders. “Then what about these?”
The confessions of the reporters and trolls he’d questioned began to play.
“It was Alpha Selene who told us to attack Luna Clara…”
“She paid us a lot of money to spread rumors…”
It was Selene who pushed Clara into the river, Clara didn’t go crazy…”
“She threatened us not to tell the truth…”
One testimony after another hammered down on the crowd.
The werewolves in attendance grew restless, their expressions shifting from sympathy to anger and disgust.
“So that’s the truth…”
“Selene has been deceiving us all!”
“She’s the reason Clara is dead!”
“That vicious woman!”
Selene looked around, seeing the contempt and fury in everyone’s eyes. Her facade finally crumbled.
“No… it’s not like that…” she shrieked hysterically. “You can’t just listen to one side of the story…”
Just then, a commanding voice came from the VIP section.
“Enough! Selene, how dare you?!”
Alpha Thorne of the Red Fang pack stood up. He was Clara’s biological father and Selene’s adoptive father.
His face was dark with rage and disappointment.
“As the former Alpha of the Red Fang pack, I hereby declare,” Thorne’s voice thundered, “that from this day forward, Selene is no longer a member of our pack. All of her titles and privileges are revoked.”
“Father!” Selene rushed toward him. “You can’t do this! I’m your daughter!”
“Daughter?” Thorne looked at her coldly. “A snake who framed her own sister and disgraced our pack is not worthy of being called my daughter.”
“From now on, the Red Fang pack has nothing to do with you.”
Applause of agreement rippled through the crowd.
Selene finally broke, collapsing to the floor in a storm of tears. “No… don’t cast me out… I have nowhere else to go…”
She turned to Ethan, her eyes filled with hope. “Ethan, you believe me, don’t you? We’re mates…”
Ethan looked down at the weeping she–wolf, the love in his eyes completely gone, replaced by deep revulsion.
He had heard all the recordings, seen all the evidence.
He realized how long he had been deceived.
He realized what a venomous woman his mate truly was.
Ethan stepped forward, his icy voice coming from above Selene’s head.
