Chapter 9
“Aurelia! You finally came back!” Cassian grabbed the hand, his eyes flooding with relief and joy.
Verena froze, her face immediately darkening. “Mr. Thornwell, look at me! I’m Verena, not Aurelia!“]]
Cassian’s face crumpled in pain. After a few seconds of confusion, he finally focused on who was actually standing there.
He sank back into the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling completely destroyed.[]
He couldn’t understand what the hell was wrong with Aurelia.[]
All he’d done was miss picking her up from the hospital because of work. Was she really going to torture him over something like that?[
Just then, his assistant Ethan burst through the door, looking frantic. []
“Mr…Mr.Thornwell! Mrs. Thornwell sent you something! We got this early this morning.“[]
Despite his confusion, Cassian immediately reached for whatever Ethan was holding.
He yanked so hard that his IV needle popped out, blood streaming down his hand, but he didn’t even notice. All his attention was on that envelope.
He tore it open with shaking fingers, and the first thing he saw made his blood turn to ice.
“DIVORCE PAPERS” – those two words hit him like a sledgehammer to the chest.
“Divorce? Why the fuck would Aurelia want to divorce me?“]
He kept shaking his head, refusing to believe that.]–
But when he flipped to the last page and saw Aurelia’s signature in her distinctive handwriting, he couldn’t deny it anymore.
He hurled the papers across the room, rage and heartbreak fighting for control.
Verena glanced at the scattered documents, a barely–concealed smirk creeping across her face.
“Oh wow, so Mrs. Perfect actually wants a divorce?“]
“Just because you didn’t personally pick her up from the hospital?“[]
“That’s ridiculous! Are all Manhattan socialites this fucking dramatic?“]
She kept running her mouth, completely oblivious to how dark Cassian’s expression was getting.
“SHUT UP! GET THE HELL OUT!” His voice was like thunder. “Who the fuck do you think you are, talking shit about my WIFE?“]
He turned to his bodyguards. “Get this bitch out of my sight! Her voice is giving me a goddamn headache!“]
Before Verena could even react, two security guys grabbed her arms and dragged her out of the
Finally, some peace and quiet.

Cassian lay there staring at the ceiling, his mind racing. He couldn’t wrap his head around why Aurelia would suddenly want a divorce.
They’d been so happy together all these years…[]
That thought got him so worked up that he tried to get out of bed. He had to get to the Westvale house. He had to ask her face–to–face why she was being so cruel.]]
But he was still running a fever and weak as hell. The second his feet hit the floor, everything went black and he crashed hard.
His forehead smacked into the nightstand, blood immediately streaming into his eyes.
Ethan rushed over to help him back into bed, but Cassian fought him off.
“Take me to the Westvale Villa. I need to see Mr.Thornwell!“]]
Ethan had no choice but to help him stumble toward the door.
But they’d barely made it to the hallway when Silas appeared, walking straight toward them.]
He gave Cassian one cold, disgusted look.
“I hear you’ve been tearing the city apart looking for my sister.”
“Want to sit down and chat? I can tell you exactly where she is.”
Cassian’s eyes lit up with desperate hope. “Silas! I knew you were back in America.”
“Is Aurelia with you? Where is she? I’ve been going crazy trying to find her…“]
Silas’s smile was pure ice. “Why do you want to see her? You got the divorce papers, didn’t you? She wants out. There’s nothing left to discuss.”
Cassian stared at him in disbelief, pain written all over his face.
“You know how much I love her! I’ll never agree to a divorce!”
Silas’s expression turned even colder. “That’s not your call to make anymore.“]
“But you have to tell me why!” Cassian’s voice cracked. “Why does she want to leave me? What the hell happened?”
Silas let out a bitter laugh. “Since you’re so clueless, I guess I’ll do you a favor. Let’s have a little heart–to–heart, shall we?”
