With every cruel word, Verena felt something inside her dying.[]

She looked up at him with pure hatred, her voice deadly quiet. “So I’m worthless trash now? Then why did you fuck me in the first place? Why did you get me pregnant with Caleb?“[]
“You turned me into exactly what you wanted–some pathetic side piece–and now you’re disgusted by what I’ve become?”
“But you know what? You’re just as disgusting as I am! I’m a homewrecker, and you’re a lying, cheating piece of shit!”
“What the hell did you just say?!” Cassian’s face went purple with rage. He lunged toward her, hands outstretched to grab her throat again.
But Verena was ready this time. She dodged him and grabbed a heavy crystal vase from the shelf.]
The vase exploded against Cassian’s skull, sending shards of glass and blood flying everywhere.
He stared at her in complete shock, blood streaming down his face.
For a split second, he just stood there stunned. Then pure fury took over, and he reached for her again.
Chapter 13
That’s when the second vase caught him right in the temple.[]
Cassian’s knees buckled. He gave Verena one last look of disbelief before crashing backward onto the hardwood floor.[]
The impact drove dozens of glass shards deep into his back and skull. He let out one agonized scream before his eyes rolled back and he went unconscious in a pool of his own blood.[]
When he woke up, he was in the ICU at Mount Sinai.[]
Miles the butler was there, along with Ethan and little Caleb. But no Verena.]
He tried to move and immediately regretted it–pain shot through every inch of his body.[]
Caleb threw himself against the hospital bed, sobbing. “Daddy! Daddy, what happened?!”]
The kid’s tears made Cassian’s chest tight. He managed to lift one finger, signaling for Miles to take Caleb out of the room.]
Once they were alone, he turned to Ethan with tremendous effort.[]
“Where… where is \Verena?“]
Ethan looked uncomfortable as hell. He stammered for a few seconds before finally spitting it out.]
“She’s… sir, that woman disappeared the same night it happened…“]
