Chapter 19
At that thought, he slowly lifted his head and looked at Aurelia with determination. []
“Aurelia, I promise you–I’ll make sure you and Lucien get justice. Once we find Verena, that bitch is dead!“]
Aurelia let out a weary sigh. Even now, Cassian was still being delusional, still trying to pin everything on Verena.[]
She stood up slowly, walked over to his bedside, and slapped him hard across the face.[]
“Cassian, you’re such a fucking coward! You’re pure evil! How dare you try to blame everything on Verena? Are you even a man?“]
The slap left Cassian stunned. He stared at her in pain and confusion. “Aurelia, what are you saying? Is that really what you think of me?“]
of
“Of course not!” Aurelia’s eyes blazed with fury. “You’re even worse than I thought!“]
“Even if you didn’t know about all the shit Verena did, she’s still your fault! You brought that psycho into our lives!”
“You had me, but that wasn’t enough for you. You had to go

His hand slowly dropped from his stinging cheek, then he started slapping himself even harder.[]
Aurelia watched him coldly, then threw the divorce papers at him. “Sign these. I’m coming back, tomorrow to pick them up.‘
As he watched her disappear, Cassian felt like someone was stabbing him in the chest.
He stared at the ceiling, finally understanding what she meant.
She was right. He was the one who’d started all of this.[]
He deserved to lose his legs.]
Cassian wiped the tears from his eyes and was about to call for Ethan when his phone rang.[]

Cassian managed a bitter smile, feeling slightly relieved for the first time in weeks.
He called Ethan and booked a flight back to New York for the next day.]
Before leaving, he signed the divorce papers and left them with the hospital reception desk, asking them to make sure Aurelia got them.
It was past midnight when he landed in New York, but instead of going home, he went straight to the police station.[]
The detective on the case filled him in immediately. They’d found Verena begging on the streets, completely mentally broken. She’d apparently suffered some kind of psychological breakdown.[]

“Would you like to see the perpetrator?” the detective asked tentatively.
Cassian shook his head. “No need. But I have additional evidence of her crimes against other people. Please forward everything to the
DA’s office.”
After dealing with Verena’s case, Cassian went to Thornwell Industries.
Actually, he’d already made up his mind during the flight home–he was going to sell the company.
He could never make up for what he’d done to Aurelia and Lucien, but at least he could try to compensate them financially.[]
Two weeks later, Cassian signed the papers to sell Thornwell Industries. Every penny went straight to Aurelia.[]
The moment she received the money, her phone rang.
“Aurelia, I know I destroyed your life, and I can never make up for that. This money is compensation for you and Lucien. But I have one last favor to ask.“[]
“What is it?” Her voice was completely emotionless.
“I want you to take care of Caleb. Verena’s in prison, and I’m… well, you can see what I’ve become. You raised him for four years, and he still misses you…“[]
After a long silence, Aurelia finally agreed.]
“The kid’s innocent. It’s you adults who fucked everything up. I’ll take Caleb and raise him properly. Don’t worry about it.“]
Hearing those words, Cassian finally felt at peace.[]
He slowly hung up the phone, then went up to the roof of the Thornwell building…[]
