Chapter 4
I didn’t bother saying anything else and turned towards the elevator.
Just then, my phone rang from inside my pocket.
As I was about to answer it, a waiter snatched the phone from my hand with suspicion, sneering as he examined the pricey device.
“How could you afford a high–end phone like this? You probably stole it, didn’t you?”
I was stunned on the spot, suppressing my anger as I enunciated each word with effort, “This–is–my–phone.”

Sophia chuckled, enjoying the spectacle, and gestured for the waiter to return my phone.
“If it’s yours, then unlock it to prove it.”
I tried unlocking it with a fingerprint but failed due to the dirt on my fingers. Facial recognition was equally unsuccessful with my hair disheveled over my face.
Just as I prepared to enter the password, the hotel manager swiftly seized the phone.
“Take this to the front desk for safekeeping and contact the guests immediately to confirm if there’s a missing phone.”
Turning to the guards, he ordered, “Report this to the police right away.”

In the next second, Mason suddenly intervened,
“Hold on. Let’s resolve this for my sake.”
Sophia quickly chimed in,
“I’m the pack’s attorney. Theft of a phone of this value could result in at least two years of sentencing. Everyone can see she’s not in a stable mental state–perhaps she’s just confused…”
“I didn’t steal it, I cut her off. “As a lawyer, you should know that false accusations are equally punishable!”
Upon hearing this, the hotel manager grew even more resolute at her words. He

signaled to the security guards to restrain me and immediately pulled out his phone to call the police.
Just then, the elevator doors slid open.
A tear–streaked little boy–no more than three years old–saw me and ran toward me with arms outstretched.
I knelt down and reached out to hand him the shell.
But before I could, Sophia struck my hand hard, knocking the shell to the floor.
“Wendy! Are you insane? Trying to steal someone’s pup in front of everyone?!”
Elias burst into terrified sobs.

Sophia scooped him up and cooed sweetly, her voice gentle and soothing:
“She’s a bad woman, not your mommy. Auntie will help you find your real mommy.“”
But Elias squirmed and thrashed in her arms, crying out in desperation:
“I want Mommy… I want Mommy!”
My heart twisted painfully, my wolf howling in agony inside me as I watched my son’s face turn red from crying.
“Let go of my son!”
I struggled with everything I had, but the
guards held me down with brute force.

The onlookers broke into mocking jeers.
“She’s a lunatic! Any pup she sees, she calls her son. Someone call the cops already!”
“Crazy she–wolves like her belong in a mental facility!”
“Mommy… Mommy…”
Elias reached his tiny hand toward me, his voice hoarse from screaming.
I swallowed the pain and kept struggling, trying to soothe him through the chaos:
“Don’t cry, baby. Mommy found your shell. I’m giving it to you now…”

Just as I was about to touch his hand, the guards wrenched my arms behind my back and bound them roughly.
Mason let out a heavy sigh and suddenly pulled me away from their grip.
“I’ll handle this. You wait outside. Once the Pack Alliance Financial Summit is over, I’ll come find you.”
He grabbed me and started dragging me toward the exit.
“Let go of me! Mason, don’t make me hate you!”
I twisted around again and again, desperate for one last look.

Elias was hiccuping with sobs, his little mouth trembling with hurt.
But Mason didn’t listen. He just kept pulling me out of the lobby.
Ding!
The elevator chimed again as it reopened.
Out stepped a tall, commanding figure.
His tailored beige suit traced the lines of his sculpted body, exuding an air of noble dominance.
“Alpha Robert, the crowd greeted in unison, their voices filled with deference.
I met his dark, fathomless eyes–and my
