Chapter 38
Chapter 38
“No… no…” Selene moaned in despair within
my mind. “Our friend is gone…”
My heart felt ripped apart, and a wave of despair washed over me.
I struggled to rise, kneeling beside it and softly
calling its name.
I whispered to it that I could see now.
“Shadow, please, just look at me one more time? Just one more glance!”
I begged it to look at me again, but it remained
still.
It never opened its eyes again, and there were
no miracles in this world.
*“It’s all that bastard’s fault!“* Selene cried in
agony. “I want revenge! I want them to pay!”
“We will, Selene. I promise, we will.”
Half an hour later, I was rescued by passing wolf warriors, but Shadow’s body had already grown cold.
I knelt in the mountain path, embracing its

lifeless form, weeping uncontrollably.
They marveled at its loyalty, but only I knew it
was merely trying to protect its family.
For three years, we had been each other’s
lifeline.
By the time they carried me down on a stretcher, night had fallen.
All the way, I held Shadow close, wishing for it
all to be an illusion, that it was simply asleep.
If I waited patiently, it would wake up, stretch
lazily, and lick my face, urging me to hurry and prepare its favorite food.
But I waited a long, long time, and I couldn’t
hold back as I gently shook it.
“Please don’t sleep anymore. I’m taking you home. Don’t you love the meat I cook for you? I’ll make you as much as you want, please, just
look at me one more time, okay?”
It lay silent, that sweet face was filled with fatigue.
Clearly, it looked reluctant to leave, and it must

nave felt bitter about not being able to stay
with me.
I gazed at it, my heart aches as if it were being slowly carved up.
I even wished I could swap these newly opened eyes for its life.
If I hadn’t agreed to accompany Alpha Marcus
to the Moon Goddess mountain for the ceremony, or begged him a little more when he was about to abandon me, maybe Shadow
wouldn’t have died.
If only I had never fallen in love with Alpha
Marcus.
When he expressed disdain for me countless times, I never regretted it. Even when he openly favored Isabella, I felt no remorse.
But now, for my deep feelings, I was torn apart with regret.
I was taken to Silvermoon Hospital. As soon
as I entered the lobby, I spotted Alpha Marcus
comforting Isabella tenderly, enveloping her in
his embrace.

Chapter 38
His obvious compassion pierced my heart, a gentle warmth that I felt I didn’t deserve.
When he looked up, he just happened to see me
on the stretcher.
I quickly turned my face away, not wanting him
to see me in this pitiful state.
But in the next moment, his furious voice exploded in my ear.
“Aria, is your eyesight bad, or is your brain not working?”
“How many times did I send you a link and you couldn’t sense it? Maybe you should let the doctor check your head, and see if your wolf spirit is gone along with your eyesight!”
*“Let me out! I want to tear that bastard apart!“* Selene roared with rage.
“Calm down, Selene. It’s not the time yet,” I soothed the furious wolf spirit within me.
I listened to his impatient insults, choosing to stay silent.
Chapter 38
I just held Shadow’s body tightly and cried quietly.
He scoffed again, his tone dripping with
contempt.
“Alright, so you’ve gone mute again?”
The words of explanation were on the tip of my tongue. When he sent me that link, I’d been fighting for my life on the edge of a cliff and had no energy left to respond.
But now, I didn’t want to say anything; I didn’t
even want to hear him speak.
Noticing my continued silence, Alpha Marcus
softened his tone.
“Alright, I won’t hold it against you. I just wanted to ask if you made it down safely.”
It had been hours since he abandoned me.
His late concern was something I didn’t need, nor did I want to accept.
I smiled faintly, my expression devoid of warmth, and nodded softly.
Chapter 38
The doctor had already examined me; I had
only a broken rib, a fractured arm, and some
soft tissue bruises.
Alpha Marcus chuckled, a tinge of blame in his
voice that wasn’t directed at me.
“Isabella, see? I told you she’d be fine. You were
fretting for nothing.”
Isabella’s laughter rang out behind him.
“I was worried about Aria too. I’m just glad she’s okay.”
“Aria, it’s all Alpha Marcus’s fault. I just twisted my ankle. He was overly worried and insisted on rushing me to the hospital. You wouldn’t hold that against us, would you?”
Though her words feigned concern, her tone revealed triumph.
I looked at her. We had both been caught in
the rain, yet she had merely damp hair while I
resembled a drowned rat, soaked to the bone
and covered in mud.
I felt like a stray dog, whereas she was cradled
in Alpha Marcus’s arms, delicate and pristine
Chapter 38
After a moment of silence, I broke the tension,
my voice hoarse:
“Alpha Marcus, let’s end our mate relationship.”
He paused for a moment, and his once–gentle
tone turned irritated.
“You’re just looking for trouble, aren’t you? A blind person like you thinks you can just call for
a divorce? How will you survive without me?”
“For these past few years, I’ve been the one supporting you. It’s already a grace I didn’t abandon you. Just because some other woman appeared by my side, you throw a fit and demand a divorce? Can’t you have a little dignity…?”
“It’s not about jealousy.”
I interjected wearily.
“What?”
I held back my tears, my voice rising:
“Alpha Marcus, Shadow is dead because of
you!”
Chapter 38
I had thought he would understand that Shadow was family to me.
A year ago, he had taken Shadow to the river, but accidentally slipped and fell into the water. Unable to swim, he was carried away by the
current.
Shadow, which was normally terrified of water, had jumped in without hesitation to save him.
It had exerted every ounce of energy to pull him to safety but had nearly drowned itself in the
process.
I assumed he remembered all this, but he
didn’t.
Alpha Marcus’s tone grew even more derisive.
“You’re saying you want to break our mate bond over a dog?”
“Aria, it’s just a dog. You can always get another one. Why make such a big deal out of it?”
“I really should take you to the doctor to check
your head, see if you’re so dumb you could
barely compare to the lowest Omega!”

to lose my dignity!
He shot me a disdainful glance, gathered Isabella to himself, and strode away.
The familiar figure became unrecognizable in
that moment.
Ever since I lost my sight, I had feared being a
burden to him, living as if on thin ice.
Now, all the grievances rushed over me like a tidal wave.
I covered my eyes and cried until I fainted.
“Aria, don’t waste your tears on such trash,”
Selene comforted gently. “We’ll make them pay.”
