Chapter 6
The other end of the line fell silent for a long time, leaving only a quiet sigh and the beeping signaling the end of the call.
Skylar’s words echoed endlessly in the empty bedroom like a curse. At that moment, Damian’s world was shattered.
What did Skylar mean by…there was no telling when she would be back?
His mind went blank. After a long time, he picked up his phone with trembling hands and dialed again.
“I don’t understand… I don’t understand a single word you just said…”
On the other end, Skylar’s voice was stern.
“Alpha Damian, that advanced Healer’s closed–door training is meant for werewolves who have no more ties left in this world. Some have been rejected by their mates, and some have lost their mates permanently. That decade of solitude is the last
salvation for their broken souls.
“Seraphina… She only managed to get a spot after you rejected her in front of everyone. She did it for you, Damian. She told me you found your soul mate in Vivian. She said this was the only thing she could do for you. To give you true freedom… For
you…”
No! That was not how it was supposed to be!
Damian’s face became pale, and cold sweat formed on his forehead.
He chose Vivian because he truly believed the silhouette he had seen on the Night of Souls was hers. He thought it was the Moon Goddess’s guidance, a divergent Fate correcting itself.
Still, he never meant for things to end like this… He never meant to push Seraphina into a fate worse than death!
Damian thought Seraphina had just left in anger, that she would come back after she had calmed down, that he…
That he would have all the time in the world to sort things out.
Damian had never truly understood what that closed–door training meant for a werewolf.
A decade of complete solitude…with nothing left to hold onto…
Every word sliced open his heart like a poisoned silver dagger. He felt like his body was being scorched in flames and frozen
in a freezer at the same time.
Damian gasped for air, but it felt like the air was getting thinner, and he was suffocating.
No. This couldn’t be happening…!
Skylar’s confused voice came in again. “How could you know nothing about this at all? Before she went for the training, she even called you one last time.”
During the despair, Damian’s remaining shred of reasoning kicked in, and he instinctively protested, “No, she didn’t! She
never contacted me!”
Yes, she didn’t
If she was really leaving for one full decade, how could she not say goodbye?
Even after everything, at the very least, they had once loved each other.
Bo, this couldn’t be real!
But Skylar insisted, “That’s impossible. I watched her call you myself. Last Saturday, around noon, when you went to
Sanctum Peak ”

Damian wanted to deny it again, but in a flash, he suddenly recalled something.
Last Saturday, around noon. He had been at the summit with Vivian. She had his phone, and was taking photos excitedly.
