Chapter 10
Dylan quickly caught up and nervously grabbed my hand. “Are you okay?”
I shook my head with a smile. “It’s nothing, just a homeless person.”
We chatted and laughed, then turned and walked into the cafe together.
Gary tried to follow us but was stopped by the clerk at the door.
“Sorry, sir, you can’t come in.”
Gary was furious and helpless outside the door. “Why? I used to be a VIP customer here!”
The clerk looked at him as if he were a madman but still maintained a professional smile.
He turned around, poured a cup of cola, and handed it to him. “Here’s some cola for you, sir, but you can’t come in.”
Gary was instantly triggered. He splashed the cola in the clerk’s face and got into a scuffle with him.
The police arrived quickly and took me to the station.
After that, a homeless man often followed me.
When Dylan found out it was Gary, he looked sour for two whole weeks.

But at night in bed, he stared at me teary–eyed and hurt, “Are you still….. have feelings for him?”
I didn’t look up, brushing him off: “What? For a beggar? I’m not interested in beggars.”
Dylan’s tears vanished instantly as he grinned.
He held me tight, murmuring: “Don’t ever leave me again.”
“I’d die without you.”
“When you chose Gary over me back then, I nearly lost my mind.”
“Knowing you were unhappy, I reached out so many times–yet you refused to marry me every time. I almost wanted to end it all.”
“Do you know how overjoyed I was when you finally said yes?”
I looked up smiling at him and nodded seriously. “I’m really happy too.”
Then she pointed at her belly, “She’s happy too.”
Dylan looked at me in surprise, “Another one?”
I nodded with a smile, then whispered in his ear, “It’s a girl.”
Overjoyed, Dylan picked me up and spun me around before carefully setting me down. Gently stroking my belly like a devoted girl–dad, he murmured, “Sorry, daddy’s good girl. Got too excited there.”
His expression made me laugh. I kicked him off the bed with my bare foot and ordered, “Go draw my foot bath.”
Dylan immediately straightened up, answering repeatedly, “Yes, dear.”

Just then my assistant’s message arrived: “Boss, Kathleen and the child are back. Kathleen’s heading to see Gary now.”
My lips curved into a smirk. Waiting for the show to begin.
The very next day, word spread about a woman with a child fighting a homeless man in the neighborhood park. The woman screamed at him to take responsibility for raising their child.
Without a word, the homeless man threw the child into a cesspit.
He cursed her as a stinking whore who’d borne another man’s child behind his back.
Their brawl spilled onto the road where both were crushed by a truck.
The child never glanced their way, demanding to go back to Africa.
I closed my tablet, suddenly listless.
Those days with Gary now felt like an illusory dream.
But the man standing nearby, cautiously testing the water temperature for me–he was my real happiness.
