How Can You 9

How Can You 9

Chapter

All these years, Nathan had always spoiled me

I loved eating street food. Nathan had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, his stomach too delicate for greasy takeout, yet he would still eat it with me

Afterward, he would always end up in the ER needing an IV drip

After I had gotten sick, Nathan had claimed he would take my pain if he could

He had stayed up night after night by my side, holding me the moment my body was wracked with pain, bringing me water, never leaving me alone

He had even tried to smooth things over between me and Mom. He had often sent gifts in my name to both her and Trinity, hoping to win Mom over so she would care about me just a little more

Nathan had been so good to me

So, how had things changed

Nathan and Trinity’s messages went on forever. I scrolled for what felt like hours and still couldn’t reach the end

So, I decided to start from the very first text

After reading it all, everything became clearNathan had mistaken the emerald pendant for proof that Trinity was the one who had saved his life

Trinity had never corrected him. Instead, she had told him that when she was seven, she had risked her life to jump into a river and rescue an older boy, who had given her that pendant as a thankyou

That older boy had been Nathan

Nathan thought he had reunited with his longlost savior, and he had never once told me

If he had, I would have told him the truth

I was the one who had saved him that day. Trinity had been the one who pushed him in

Nathan had been tricked

I had to tell him

I tried calling him over and over, but I couldn’t get through. I had no choice but to sit by the phone and wait
