Of course, I did the same thing my ex–colleagues did. I congratulated Vernon and Peggy on their engagement before deleting all his contact information.
Soon, my flight touched down at Paloria. Mom and Dad personally came to pick me up from the airport.
Mom held my hand, looking rather dismayed. “My sweet daughter. You studied and worked so far from home. Look at you! You’re so thin!”
Dad also patted me on the shoulder and kept saying, “I’m glad you’re back!”
Next to Mom and Dad was a man with a straight posture. He had broad shoulders and a slim waist.
The man wore a three–piece suit. He seemed a few years older than I was and had deep–set features. A humorous glint flashed through his gentle gaze as he quietly looked at me.
I couldn’t help but blush under his intense gaze. By then, I already had an idea of who the man was.
Mom and Dad hurriedly made the introductions. “Avril, this is Dylan Walker.”
I reached out to shake his hand. He did the same and gently held my fingertips.
“Welcome home, sweetheart.” Dylan flashed me a smile. My cheeks instantly flushed at his words.
Mom and Dad beamed at us. Without hesitation, they shoved me to Dylan’s side.
Dylan grabbed the luggage I had been wheeling with my left hand. As he was very observant, it didn’t take long for him to notice my scalded left wrist.
“What happened to your wrist?” Dylan asked.
I didn’t want to bring up the embarrassing incident in the pantry. I simply said I had accidentally burned myself.
A glint flashed through Dylan’s eyes, and he reached out to pat my head. “In the future, you’ll be my wife. You better get used to me treating you well.”
I hummed weakly in response. Indeed, I didn’t know how to accept how gentle he was.
After taking me home, the first thing Dylan did was take out a first–aid kit. He drained my blisters and treated my wounds before applying a soothing ointment.
I had just gotten out of a relationship. I didn’t think I was ready to start dating immediately. Dylan said he didn’t mind waiting as long as the person I chose in the end was him.
After walking Dylan out, I began wondering how I should make things clear with him. But Mom and Dad knew right away that something was bothering me.
