Chapter 3
The next day at work, neither of us brought up what happened last night.
The silence in the car felt suffocating.
It wasn’t until we got out that Zaiden finally spoke.
“You slapped Sonia a few days ago. Go apologize to her today.‘
His voice was stiff, as if he already knew I’d throw a fit about it.
But I just nodded.
“Okay.”
He looked a little surprised but didn’t say anything else.
After arriving at the office, I kept my word and went to look for Sonia.
I looked around and found her in the pantry with Zaiden.
The smell of coffee hung in the air. The two of them locked eyes, sharing a quiet, sweet understanding.
Then she spotted me from the corner of her eye. Her smile vanished instantly. She turned her face slightly, letting her hair cover the swelling on her cheek.”
Zaiden instinctively stepped in front of her.
“What are you doing here?”
His tone was distant.

I was a madwoman.
I was possessive–obsessive–about him.
He was handsome and gentle.
Plenty of women had a crush on him.

In my past life, I even drugged his drink and forced him to cross the line.
He tried to resist my touch, but even then, I heard pleasure in his broken gasps. I thought it meant something.
I ignored the truth–that it was just a reaction he couldn’t control.
But Sonia had always been special to him.
Even ten years after her death, he still hadn’t forgiven me.
I swallowed the bitterness rising in my chest. I took a breath and bowed deeply to her.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hit you the other day or yelled at you in public
like that.
“Will you… Forgive me?”
Sonia glanced at Zaiden. He stayed quiet. So she nodded carefully. “It’s fine. Don’t worry about it. I forgive you.”
I looked up–right into Zaiden’s eyes.
