How could it be Zaiden?!
I felt a wave of dizziness.
The department head pulled the ribbon and cheerfully introduced, “Welcome, Mr. Lowell and Ms. Yost.”
That was when I noticed–Sonia was behind Zaiden. She’s his personal
assistant now.
Everyone started whispering.
“Such a good–looking pair. Do you think they’re a couple?”
Mike nudged me. “Still, I think he’s not as handsome as my stepfather.”
I shot him a glare. “Bullshit!”
Of course, Zaiden is better looking.
I tried my best to disappear into the background.
This body didn’t look like my old one at first.
But after three years, it’s gotten closer.
Good thing I wore a mask today.
Zaiden only glanced at me once when he walked in. He didn’t even give me a second look.
He definitely didn’t recognize me.

That evening, to welcome Zaiden, the department head organized a team- building party.
Someone suggested playing Truth or Dare.
Finally, someone got the chance to ask Zaiden a question.
“Do you have a girlfriend?”
“Yes.”
That one calm word killed a lot of hope in the room.
Next round-“Is your girlfriend in this room?”
Everyone stared at him.
My heart clenched without me realizing.
Zaiden looked up. Maybe it was just my imagination–but his gaze seemed to drift my way.
“Yes.”
His girlfriend’s here? Then it has to be Sonia
Fine. I admit even though I knew the answer, it still stung.
Thinking back, maybe dying back then wasn’t such a bad thing.
If I had stayed by Zaiden’s side, watching him marry and have kids, I probably would’ve gone insane.
In the second half of the night, people seemed bored. A guy sitting next to Zaiden suddenly pointed at his earring. “Your earring’s pretty unique. Looks like there’s sand inside.”

Zaiden finally showed a hint of expression.

“Yeah. It’s my stepdaughter’s ashes.”
The room went dead silent.
This time, I felt it for real.
Zaiden was looking at me.
“Her name is Arielle.”
