Chapter 9Â
Callum fired back without hesitation. “He didn’t take responsibility for you! Beating him half to death still wouldn’t be enough! And now he wants to win you over? Too late!”Â
I could feel my blood pressure spiking.Â
Samuel stepped up beside me and gave my back a firm pat, his eyes glinting with a dry amusement.Â
“What’s this, Diana? Callum still doesn’t know the full story?”Â
I pressed my lips together and didn’t answer. That was enough.Â
His smirk deepened. He clapped Callum on the shoulder. “Kid, Diana’s spoiled you too much over the years. Can’t even tell right from wrong now, huh? Why don’t you go find out for yourself–who really let her down?”Â
Callum froze for a second, confusion flashing across his face. Then, as if something finally clicked, he grabbed his phone and rushed out of the room.Â
I didn’t stop him. Instead, I turned to Samuel, resigned. “I didn’t want him to find out.”Â
Samuel ruffled my hair again, the way a big brother might, his voice steady and kind. “If he doesn’t face the truth, he’ll never stop chasing you. Diana, you know this as well as I do. If you don’t cut things off cleanly, you’ll only get dragged deeper. If this helps him let go, then it’s for the best.”Â
I stayed quiet, waiting for Callum to come back.Â
It didn’t take long.Â
