I held my posture, aiming to interact with them as an equal, not as someone in their debt.
It seemed like my declaration had caused my parents to fall silent. They simply stared at me, leaving me rather perplexed.
Why weren’t they yelling or striking me? Why couldn’t they accept me severing ties with them?
Hadn’t they always made it clear that I wasn’t their daughter? I tried to call them “Dad” and “Mom” back then, only to be told
to keep quiet to avoid upsetting Tina. Why were they suddenly reluctant now that I was finally severing ties with them?

I continued, “I’ll be transferring the 60 thousand dollars to you right away, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson. I expect you to uphold your end of the bargain and allow me to formally sever all ties with the Johnson family.‘
It seemed like my statement had caught Karen off guard. It wasn’t long ago that even her physical and verbal abuse couldn’t stop me from trying to call her “Mom“. Yet, the fact that I now addressed her as “Mrs. Johnson” clearly took her by surprise.
Karen, with a nervous edge to her voice and a hint of remorse, said, “I’ll have someone look into the White fami Kiara. But can you try not to get too emotional-”

just her way of trying to scare you, Mom and Dad. I mean, where would she get that much money? I did hear some mention that Kiara has been seeing some older guys outside-”
