I ignored the stares and whispers swirling around me.
Without a word, I walked straight to the empty seat beside Selene, sat down with perfect composure, and poured myself a glass of water.
“Ivory, it’s been ages!”
The first to speak was Kenzie Nedric, decked out in flashy clothes and heavy makeup.
“I heard you never went to college back then? Well, I guess your family couldn’t really afford tuition, could they?
“So, where’ve you been working all these years? Don’t tell me the rumors are true–that you married some old guy? Judging by your outfit today, you look pretty casual.”
She made a point of emphasizing the “married some old guy” part, drawing giggles from a few girls nearby.
“I spent a few years in Stone Pack. Just got back to Moonlit Pack,” I replied lightly, not interested in sharing more.
“Oh, Stone Pack, huh!”
A guy named Stanley jumped in, his tone dripping with exaggerated sympathy
“You might get away with some sketchy jobs in Stone Pack, but here in Moonlit Pack, that stuff’s illegal. We’re all classmates–have you found a real job yet? Want us to help you out?

“My Beta uncle’s office is looking for a secretary. The requirements aren’t tough–just need to know your way around a computer! The pay isn’t great, but at least it’s respectable. Better than what you used to do…‘
He dragged out the last part, clearly hinting at something.

“Yeah, he’s right,” Kenzie chimed in instantly, her concern obviously fake.
“Ivory, we’re old friends–if you’re struggling, just say so.
With your situation… Oh, I mean, since you never went to college and don’t have much to wear for interviews, it might be tough. How about I take you shopping for a couple of decent outfits? If you’re short on cash, I can spot you. You used to be the top student–it’s really a shame to see you like this.”
Carlos remained silent.
But his fingers tightened around his glass, his eyes dark and fixed on me.
His new girlfriend, Felicity Claridge, finally couldn’t hold back.
She let out a mocking laugh, leaning forward with an air of superiority and barely concealed contempt.
“Ivory, right? I’ve heard about you.
“Word is, you used to chase after Alpha like a lovesick puppy.
“Did his homework, took notes for him, even covered for him with the teachers?
“That must’ve been exhausting.”
She paused, relishing the eager, gossipy looks from everyone around.

“But at least you had enough sense to realize you and Alpha were worlds apart. No future there. So you took off–but it looks like things haven’t gone so well for you, huh?
“Now, Carlos isn’t just Alpha, he’s also heir to the Vellin Group. As for me, I just took over my family’s fashion brand. I’m busy negotiating a collaboration with one of the world’s top design houses. If you’re in trouble, we could help you out.”
I took a sip of water, unbothered. “No, thanks.”

Felicity shot me a disdainful look, her tone turning smug.
“You probably don’t know my connections. Ever heard of Lumina? It’s the hottest new luxury jewelry brand!
“Their chief designer is a genius who’s won international awards in Stone Pack! Super talented, super mysterious. I pulled a ton of strings just to get in touch with her. If she’d design a collection for my brand, it would shake up the entire fashion world!
“If that happens, I could toss you a bone or two with just a snap of my fingers.”
Everyone gasped and started fawning.
“I know Lumina! Their designs are incredible!”
“I heard their designer is super picky–most people aren’t even worth her time!”
“Ms. Claridge, your connections are amazing! Only someone like you deserves to stand beside Mr. Vellin!”
Felicity lifted her chin, basking in their praise. This was exactly the reaction she wanted.
