“I’m sorry, I…”
I hung my head even lower.
Eric was not interested in hearing my explanation. He said icily, “I’ve clearly been too lenient with you, and now you’ve neglected your responsibilities.
“Pass all your current assignments to Oliver. Additionally, draft a self–criticism and display it in the company at lunchtime as a cautionary example for everyone.”
Previously, whenever I forgot to knock, Eric never punished me.
But this time was different. Karen had returned, and it seemed he no longer needed me.
To avoid making Karen envious, he had even taken away my role and given it to my male colleague, Oliver Hachett.
“Yes, Mr. Daglesh,” I said as I exited the room.
I organized the materials and documents and passed them over to Oliver.
News traveled fast–within an hour, everyone in the company was talking about it.
“See? I told you so, didn’t I? She’s already been demoted.”
“Using sneaky tactics to rise up, her true nature will come out eventually.”
“Let’s see how proud she acts in the company from now on.”
Former colleagues who once flattered me were now enjoying my misfortune, reveling in my unfortunate situation.
I went back to my desk, drafted a resignation letter, and approached Eric to get it signed.
Coincidentally, I ran into Eric as he was leaving the company.
“Mr. Daglesh, could you please sign this?”
I ran after him, extending the resignation letter, and gestured to the empty spot where his signature was needed.
Without even looking, Eric scribbled his name with a flourish.
He quickly left, seemingly in a hurry.
The plane was nearly landing, and he was on his way to pick up Karen.
Holding the resignation letter tightly, I couldn’t contain my excitement and let out a cheer.

I had already bought a ticket for the day after tomorrow, intending to embark on a vacation. And, as a treat for myself, I planned to hire eight male models.
As for Samuel…
My hands stopped mid–fold.
He likely wouldn’t visit tonight since Karen had returned.
However, to my surprise, Samuel slipped into my bed again while I was sound asleep.
This time, he didn’t do anything drastic. He simply embraced me from behind.
Assuming I was asleep, he whispered to himself.
“Sweetheart, I’m sorry, I broke my promise.
“I once vowed to love you forever and never leave you, but now someone else important in my life has come back.”
Samuel embraced me with a firm grip, as though he wished to make us one.
He cried quietly.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart…
“This is where it ends for us…”
The following morning, I awoke to find no sign of Samuel next to me.
On the nightstand lay a bank card and a letter.
Without any remorse, I pocketed the bank card and ripped the letter to pieces.
Naturally, I intended to leave both of you behind and begin anew.
I would travel to the Maldives for some diving and then to Phuket to witness the sunrise.
At the airport, I sat confidently in a chair, sunglasses on, prepared to check in and jet off to my next destination.
From afar, I noticed a familiar figure approaching.
Even if he were nothing but dust, I’d recognize him anywhere.
Eric!
What was he doing at the airport?
Quickly, I shielded my face and discreetly kept an eye on Eric.

I watched him head directly in my direction.
Panic surged through me.
I jumped to my feet, preparing to bolt like a mouse fleeing a cat.
As I spun around, I collided with a firm chest.
“Darling, where do you think you’re headed?
“I’ve been searching for you endlessly, and now… I’ve found you.”
Simultaneously, Eric’s icy voice cut in.
“Amanda Ackrea, who said you could quit and walk away from me?”
Oh no! They both found me at the same time!
