Dr. Beckham Brown–Weston’s friend–had been hanging around for a while. As soon as Weston and Lyra walked in, he couldn’t help but smirk.
“Made me wait here since the crack of dawn, and now you finally show up. Wait–is this the girl you’ve been dreaming-”
Weston shot him a look. “My wife, Lyra Lebeau.”
Dr. Brown snapped his mouth shut, catching on quick. He guided Lyra in for a check–up, being extra careful while changing the bandage on her head–just like Weston had told him.
An hour later, the results were ready. Dr. Brown pulled Weston into the hallway, looking serious. “Weston, it’s not just the head injury–she had temporary blindness too.
“Good news is, her right eye’s starting to recover. But here’s the thing–the wound on her head doesn’t look like a one–time hit. Feels more like repeated, intentional harm.”
He lowered his voice. “I had a buddy dig up her records from Silvercrest Hospital in Lindale.
“Something’s off. She was supposedly admitted for a stomach infection, but the meds they used don’t line up. From what I can tell, it looks like she was secretly forced to donate bone marrow…”
A surge of anger shot through Weston’s chest. He grabbed his phone, voice ice–cold. “Find out everything Lyra went through recently in Lindale.”
The next morning, his assistant called. “Mr. Windsor, I’ve put together all the info on Mrs. Windsor’s experiences in Lindale and sent you the file.”
In the study, Weston opened the document, his face dark. The Windsor and Fenwick families had been at each other’s throats for generations. He’d never bothered with their old grudges–until now. Hurting his wife changed everything.
“Fenwick Corp’s after that shipment at the dock, right? Raise the price and take it from them.”
A brief pause on the line before his assistant spoke up, a little hesitant. “Mr. Windsor, are you planning to go head -to–head with the Fenwicks?”
“YES.”
