Chapter 10
Scott’s POV
I never thought my mom would really leave me.
During Dad and Ivanna’s wedding, Mom had said she would never remarry him. Even so, I wasn’t really worried at that time.
After Mom left the venue, Dad and I were busy dealing with the guests.
We received a lot of strange looks from them.
I felt humiliated. And so, I started thinking about what I’d say to Mom once we got home.
After some time, I settled on these words. “It’s all your fault. You embarrassed me in front of so many people!”
I imagined that after I said that, Mom would look guilty. Maybe she’d even make her signature soup to make it up to me.
But all those fantasies disappeared the moment we returned home.
Mom was gone, along with all her belongings. I stared at the blank spot on the wall where our family portrait used to hang,
and that was when I realized that she was seriously leaving us this time.
I looked at my dad, and in the reflection of his eyes, I saw my own panicked face.
We didn’t know where she had gone. Dad and I searched like crazy.
Eventually, we made our way to Lily’s house. She came out holding a broom to chase us away.
When I was little, every time Mom brought me to Lily’s place, she would always give me the best candy. She’d stroke
with a big smile and say I was the cutest little boy.
But now, she was furiously yelling at my appreciate how well she’d taken care

Upon hearing Lily’s words, Dad’s face turned ashen.
“And you!” She turned her attention to me. “You ungrateful brat! Janice should’ve
given up
on you when she had a difficult
labor. She was in pain for a whole day and night just to bring you into this world. And you? You betrayed your own mom for
some outsider.”
I lowered my head guiltily, absolutely ashamed of myself. Lily’s words only made me panic even more.
What should I do now? What if Mom
ally
didn’t want me anymore?
I would be left without a mother.
Ivanna tried to comfort me, “I’ll always treat you like my own son.”
Previously, hearing that would’ve made me feel touched.
But now, I couldn’t take in a single word Ivanna offered. All I could think about was how to find Mom and bring her back.
When we got to Wismuth, I arrived just in time to witness her being proposed to. At that moment, my heart sank to my
stomach
There was a glimmer in her eyes. It was something I had never seen in all these years.
But the moment she saw us, it disappeared.
I apologized to her. But this time, she didn’t forgive me like before, nor did she pull me into her arms adoringly.
She just said, “Ivanna is your mother now,”

Then, she turned and walked away.
I sobbed uncontrollably as I watched her get further and further away from me.
It was then that I knew she would never forgive me again.
