Thoughts of my father are still on my mind. My fingers grip onto the steering wheel with frustration. He knows how much talking about my father irks me, yet he does shit like that on purpose because he likes to see people squirm.
He finds their weakness and he plays with them.
When I got home, I called Russo and Anthonio to my office straightaway, no matter what they were doing. I didn’t see Alessia at all and it was just as well.
With the headspace I’m in, I don’t think I can even take her out anymore. God! I need a fucking gallon of whiskey to get me through this day.
“How did it go?” Russo doesn’t bother to knock on my office door as he waltzes into the room.
I glanced up at him from my laptop and suppressed a grunt. “As you would expect Landon to be. He took the money and I think we’ve kept him at bay for now. We’re still no closer to finding out who’s been blackmailing my men. Where’s Anthonio?“.
Russo moved closer to the chairs in front of my desk. “He’s on his way over now.” I watch as he tucks his shirt up to his elbows, flashing off his inked skin.
“Good,” I grumble before looking back at the screen in front of me.
The room is quiet until Anthonio makes his appearance. At least he knocks. “What’s been going down?” Is the first thing he
says.
I flick my eyes up at him as he perches down beside Russo. “Landon is literally on his final straw with us,” I state. “Have you found out anything new?”
His light eyes fixate on mine. “Still looking, boss. But things have died down for now. It might have only been just Rizzo and Gabriel.”
“But there’s still someone out there blackmailing my men.” I lean forward in my chair, glancing between them both. “And we need to get to the bottom of it before more people start stabbing me in the fucking back. I maintained Gabriel’s passcode for his phone. Did you find anything on it?”
Russo nods. I found the texts and I ran the numbers but whoever did it is smart because it is untraceable, no number, no name, no IP address, nothing.”
I curse under my breath. Did you hand it over to Alessandro?”

Alessandro is our tech expert and he’s never failed me before. “Not yet,
I haven’t.”
“Well, what are you waiting for? Do that this afternoon. We need to get to the bottom of this quickly. I’m tired of being discreet.”
“Of course, boss.”
“Right. Well, I’ve got work to do.” I mumbled, dismissing them. And Russo, don’t forget you’re due at the warehouse in thirty minutes.”

Russo nods his head. “I just wanted to speak to you about something first.”

Anthonio stands up from his chair and nods at us both. “I’ll go over and see Alessandro. Anything else you need me to do?”
1 stare up at him for a few moments as he lingers by the door. Something like concern or worry flashes by his eyes but I shake it away. “Maybe see if Rizzo’s phone could also be obtained. It’s probably down with the archives.”
“Right away, boss.” He says before heading out of my office.
My brows are still bunching up as he walks away. “Do you think he’s acting weird?”
“Probably because we didn’t give him a lashing for going out with Alessia, I think he’s waiting for it.” Russo chuckles.
I snort to myself. I’ve been far too fucking busy to care about him right now. As long as he does his work, and reports back to me, that’s all I want from him.
“What is it?” I said to Russo as I glanced back at the paperwork and laptop in front of me. “I’ve got work to do.”
“Well, it’s Alessia’s birthday on Tuesday.” He says and I flipped my eyes up to his. “And after everything she’s been through and how she complains of boredom, I’ve decided to do something small for her.
Something with security and everything so you don’t blow your head off.” He chuckled at the last part.
I move my head slowly backward. “Tuesday is her birthday, huh “She deserves to celebrate as much as the next person.”
“I don’t celebrate my birthday.”
“Yeah, well, you’re weird.” Russo leans forward to press his elbows to his knees in the chair.
I clear my throat. “So what are you planning to do?”
Russo shrugs. “Not sure yet. Somewhere local. Somewhere we trust but anything will be good enough for her. Is that all good? Because I don’t want you blasting us all in the forehead when we stumble home in the morning.”
I glanced at Russo and readjusted myself in the chair. “Careful Russo.” I scolded, not in the mood to be teased right now. Sometimes though, Russo just forgets that I’m his boss and talks to me like a friend. I enjoy the banter but just not now.
“How many people?” I finally asked.
“Oh no, just me, Alessia, and Anthonio.” He says.
“I’ll come.”
“You will?”
Why does he sound shocked?
I shrug simply. “What? I need a break of my own.”
The room turns silent until Russo huffs out a laugh and stands from the chair. “Alright. He nods his head. “Sure. I wasn’t expecting it but sure. As long as you don’t get too harsh on her on her birthday.”
Harsh? I laugh to myself. Why does he think I would be?

“I’m coming for the drinks, change of scenery, nothing more. So long as it’s somewhere local.”
Nothing more? I just lied through my teeth!

1 couldn’t take it that Alessia would be somewhere without me around her. She might have two of her brothers around her but I don’t trust anyone else except myself to protect her.
Russo nods and walks towards the door. “Alright. I’m going to the warehouse. See you later.”
“Let me know about any updates.”
“Will do.”
And then he’s gone.

I pressed a hand on my forehead as I got up from the chair and headed upstairs to Alessia’s room wondering what excuse to give her because I couldn’t follow up with the plan I had of taking her out. Not in this state I’m in.
I entered her room to see her sitting on the sofa in the room and smiling so sweetly at a guy she was on FaceTime with.
Instant rage and jealousy consumed me.
What the fuck?!
