“What’s going on?!” Celeste asked, not understanding.
But when she saw Vivian’s clothes disheveled and her trembling, curled up in Xavier’s arms, she roughly understood.
He flew into a rage to defend his girl but she didn’t expect him to slap her the next second.
“Don’t you know what’s going on?!”
Xavier’s eyes were bloodshot, staring at her like an enraged lion, rebuking, “Celeste, if you want to use those underhanded tactics, I won’t stop you, but don’t drag Vivi into it. She is a simple girl, not like you, so unscrupulous.”
Celeste was stunned, rooted to the spot.
Her face burned, but his words cut even deeper
like her heart was being ripped in two.
She was unscrupulous?!
Back when the company was just starting out, she had to hustle sales all the time. Once, she got into a situation like this–but she said ‘screw it,‘ pissed off the client, and bolted the hell out of there.
He was furious when he found out. He stormed over and beat the guy to a pulp–just like today. Got himself locked up for a few days over it. But even then, he told her, ‘You did great. Thanks for protecting yourself.”
From then on, everyone knew she hated unspoken rules.
But now, in Xavier’s eyes, she had become a woman who would stop at nothing for business.
Tears fell from the corner of Celeste’s eye, “Is that kind of person what I am in your eyes?”
Xavier froze, somewhat wavering.
Just then, Vivian clutched his clothes, her face flushed, and said, “Mr. Sinclair, Celeste kept pushing me to drink, even after I told her I can’t handle alcohol. I tried to say no nicely, but they wouldn’t take ‘no‘ for an answer. I feel awful right now.”
After she finished speaking, his expression turned sharp, looking at Celeste as if his gaze was laced with poison, “People change… hell, I don’t even recognize you anymore.”
With that, he picked her up and walked out.
Celeste lowered her gaze, and after a long silence, managed to force out a smile, but it looked even worse than crying.
Yes, people change easily. He was no longer her Xavier.
On her way home, she was dragged into a dark alley.
What the hell was happening?!
Celeste was so frightened her face turned pale.
But the man didn’t say anything; instead, he pressed her down firmly on the ground, answering her question with his actions.
Ninety–nine bottles of strong liquor were stacked on the ground.
The man opened them one by one, then poured them all down her throat. Celeste wanted to call for help, but in the next instant, she choked so hard she couldn’t make a sound.
The strong liquor flowed down her throat, burning and stinging.
Celeste struggled painfully, yet she was as helpless as a lamb at slaughter, reduced to nothing but endless tears.
After the man and his accomplices forced alcohol down her throat, they ripped away her flimsy clothing, exposing her pale, delicate skin. Their gleamed with lust as they laughed cruelly.
“Wait!” One of them suddenly spoke, “We are only told to teach her a lesson, don’t make a big deal out of it, we can’t afford to offend him.” “What are you scared of? Have you ever known a man to be that cruel to his own wife? Even if we sleep with her, he’d probably thank us for it!” Celeste abruptly opened her eyes, as if struck by lightning.
Were they talking about Xavier?
Just because Vivian pretended to be force–fed alcohol and nearly taken advantage of, he wanted her to know how it felt humiliation.

He truly loved Vivian to death.
Just as the men were about to touch her with their filthy hands, a police siren suddenly blared outside, followed by a passerby shouting at them:“Stop! I’ve already called the police.”
Frightened, they all scattered and fled.
Celeste escaped the danger, but she stared blankly at the night sky, completely soulless.
Suddenly, she burst into tears.
All her grievances poured out, and soon after, she painfully retched, dry–heaving until no bile was left before she shakily stood up and walked home.
