Jonathan raised an eyebrow. “Maybe I should also check if our divorce certificate is about to expire.”
Teresa was stunned for a few seconds, then retorted, “You’re such a weirdo.” Just then, Jonathan’s phone rang. He had a meeting to attend, and then he hung up.
“I’ll ask my assistant to come over and show you some easy positions. See if there’s anything you like. Why not just work here?” He wanted to resolve Teresa’s situation before going to his meeting.
“Seriously, that’s not necessary.” Teresa really didn’t want to work at Jonathan’s company.
“Well, just go back to Nareigh. I’ll let it slide this time,” Jonathan finally compromised.
“Whether I go back or not is my own business,” Teresa said, knowing he was busy. “Go to your meeting.”
Jonathan replied, “Sure, it’s your choice. But spending money on you is my choice too. Take this card. As for Miriam’s gift, I’ll give it to her when I’m back in Nareigh. If I can’t make it, I’ll have someone else deliver it.”
“Come on, don’t make this more difficult than it needs to be.” Teresa grasped Jonathan’s hand, pressed the card into his palm, left it with him, and then turned to leave.
Jonathan caught up with her by the elevator. “Just think of it as me repaying you for marrying me. Don’t overthink it. Just take it, no need to feel guilty, okay?”
Teresa said, “I told you, you don’t owe me anything anymore.”
Jonathan said, “I do owe you. It’s only right. You stood by me while I chased my dreams, so the least I can do is try to make it up to you.”
“Please, I was not so good.”
“Still, thank you. You could’ve picked someone better, but you chose me.”
Jonathan placed both hands on Teresa’s shoulders, let out a soft sigh, and gently turned her around. “I’ll ask the driver to take you home. If you drove here by yourself, be careful on the way. I’ll call you after my meeting.”
Teresa felt helpless. As she was going downstairs, she attempted to give the bank card to Jonathan’s driver. The driver quickly waved his hands, looking anxious. “Please, ma’am, don’t put me in a difficult situation. I can’t accept anything from Mr. Lynn.”
Teresa said, “Just help me give it back to him-”
“Sorry, you’ll have to do it on your own. Please don’t make things hard for me,” the driver said, leaving Teresa with no choice but to go home for now.
Halfway through the meeting, Jonathan wanted to call Teresa. She’d already texted saying she got home safely and told him not to bother. He put down his phone, eyes dark as he looked at his team. “Carry on. The meeting’s been extended by half an hour.”
After arriving home, Teresa sent Miriam an email. In the email, she wrote a few lines wishing Miriam a happy birthday, hoping that things would go smoothly between Miriam and Edward, and told her to get in touch if she ever needed anything.
To be honest, this was quite nice. If Miriam and Edward ended up together, Miriam would be related to Jonathan.
She wasn’t sure how things were going between Jennifer and Donald. If the two of them got along well, Jennifer would also become part of Jonathan’s family.

After sending the email, Teresa didn’t receive a reply from Miriam. Usually, Miriam would respond within a couple of hours, or at least by the end of the day. Teresa waited until late at night, but still got nothing.
