Chapter 5
The next morning, I was yanked out of bed, shoved into a wedding dress, and dragged to a perfectly staged wedding venue.
Seeing my sour expression, Ryan frowned.
“You’re holding up the shipment over something this small? Your future father–in–law is still waiting on those goods, you know?”
After finding out yesterday that they were in cahoots, I ordered a full stop on all deals with the Jenkin Group.
They used to take the money while the Sullivan Group did all the work, just because of the engagement.
That decision turned out to be

what saved me right when I needed it most.
It pulled Ryan away just in time.
I didn’t feel like wasting words. My face was blank as I said, “The engagement is canceled.”
Ryan saw I wasn’t backing down.
He held back his frustration and, for once, apologized to me.
“Tessa, stop acting like a kid, okay? I’ve thought it over, and what I did was wrong. I shouldn’t have taken something as serious as marriage so lightly.
“All the slips in that box are ‘marry.‘ I swear I won’t run away from the wedding again.”

When I didn’t say anything, he kept going, “And don’t worry about yesterday’s favor. Just take the villa, I’ll just give it to you as a wedding gift.”
I couldn’t help but laugh out of anger.
That villa was mine, and yet he said that with no shame!
I turned around with a blank expression.
As Ryan was leaving, I pretended to trip and used the chance to stick a tiny camera onto his hair.
When I suddenly threw myself into his arms, he gave a sly, cocky smile.
“Easy, baby. I’ll make tonight unforgettable.”
He seemed serious this time.
He personally picked a high–end makeup team and a custom–made French wedding dress.
“Tessa, I mean it. I’ll make sure you’re the happiest bride tonight.
“I want the whole world to see how happy we are.
He sounded sincere, eyes full of excitement about the wedding.
But the moment I turned away, I caught him whispering on the phone with Chloe, “That idiot really thinks the dress and makeup team were for her. Joke’s on her–they were all for you.
“Don’t worry, babe. I already switched the wedding dress.
“Once she wears it to marry me tonight, I’ll change it back for you.

“Chloe, I’m sorry you have to put up with this, but don’t worry, you’ll get everything you deserve.”
Ryan still thought I had no clue about Chloe.
Even a second before the wedding, the two of them were still getting cozy in the room behind the stage.
I sneered as I took off the wedding dress he chose and waited silently for the wedding to start.
When Ryan noticed I wasn’t wearing it, he looked annoyed and asked, “Why aren’t you wearing the wedding dress?”
I just shrugged calmly.
“Because I’m not marrying you.”
He clenched his teeth, voice low and tense. “I already agreed to marry you. Why are you still being so difficult? Marrying me has always been your biggest dream. Stop lying to yourself.”
Then, he smugly placed the drawing box in front of me.
His eyes were full of confidence, like he thought he already had me.
But when I pulled out the runaway slip, Ryan froze.
He snatched the paper from my hand, checking it over and over in disbelief.
“Impossible! This can’t be happening!”
The guests below started whispering among themselves.
Albert narrowed his eyes, barely hiding his anger and glaring at Ryan.

Ryan started to panic and laughed awkwardly.
“It’s our 100th wedding, so Tessa gets three tries.”

I played along and kept drawing, and pulled the runaway slip three times
in a row.
Ryan angrily tossed the box aside, his face dark.
“Something as serious as marriage shouldn’t be decided by a draw! I’ll marry Tessa with or without it!”
But when he reached out to put the ring on my finger, I pulled my hand away and said calmly, “Ryan, you’ve already lost the right to marry me.”
