Seeing this, Jason immediately chased after her.
Jackson thought, The world is complicated. I want to go home.
He glanced at Janie with pity, his earlier sharpness had faded away..
Janie patted his head. “Come and eat.”
Jackson nodded and smiled back.
Emily frowned. “Janie, aren’t you being too harsh? Xena is crying!”
Janie looked confused. “What did we do wrong? Should I cry too?”
Emily was speechless for a moment.
“I didn’t mean it that way. I think we’re all friends. You don’t have to be,” she explained.
When did we become friends? That seems way too fast and unreasonable: Janie responded inside.
Jackson jumped in for her defense. “We’re not friends. Don’t be a goose.”
Emily was choked with anger and didn’t understand why the siblings were acting so coldly.

She stopped talking and looked a little upset.
David approached Janie and Jackson’s table with a friendly smile. “Mind if I join you?”
Jackson sighed internally but nodded anyway.
David looked at Janie, who nodded back. He smiled and walked over to sit down.
Seeing David siding with them, Emily became even more upset as she couldn’t squeeze into their small table.
The more she ate her boiled duck, the less flavorful she felt
She walked over to Janie tentatively and asked, “Janie, your meal smells amazing. Can I have some?”
But Jackson cut in before she could finish. “Nope. My cooking is only for Janic.”
Feeling dejected now, Emily could only force a smile as she went back to her seat.
“Eat more, you’ve lost weight recently Jackson said as he gave Janie some food.
Janic looked at him helplessly, but finally nodded her head.
David felt like the boiled duck in his hand tasted even better.
But then he caught Jackson’s heavy stare, and for a moment, he froze before breaking into a smile.
Jackson just hummed and turned his head away
[David really likes to go to Janie’s side. Is there seriously nothing going on between them?]
[Oh my! Jackson is such a jerk! It’s just a meal. He’s overreacting!]
[Come on, they were not friends. David didn’t eat their meal either. If I were cooking. I’d only cook for the people who matter to me.]
