David looked around and realized Janie hadn’t followed.
“Janie?” James and Olivia were surprised.
David explained, “She’s my friend, here with me.”
The mention of a girl would make his parents curious and happy, but not at this moment.
James frowned. “Why are you bringing a friend now? We can’t accommodate her, and…”
And they didn’t want outsiders to know what was going on. After all, it wasn’t a trivial matter. It felt quite sinister.
David hurriedly interjected, “It’s not like that. My friend isn’t ordinary. She might have some insights.”
James and Olivia wondered, ‘Is she not just a girl, but perhaps a master?‘

Not wanting to say anything further, David dashed outside. He found Janie and Jackson leisurely enjoying drinks and snacks.
David rushed over to them. “Miss Janie, please go check on my grandpa.”
The butler looked astonished.
Janie appeared no older than twenty. He didn’t believe she could possibly grasp something even the best equipment couldn’t diagnose. It seemed to him that David was seeing this girl through rose–colored glasses.
Before he could speak, Janie stood up. “Let’s go.”
She was calm and composed, as if she had it all figured out.
David felt an inexplicable sigh of relief.
Jackson followed Janie into the bedroom.
James and Olivia were less than pleased. They didn’t think a young girl like Janie could possibly help.
But given David’s deep respect for his grandfather, they trusted he wouldn’t act recklessly, so they reluctantly tolerated the situation.
Janie paid no attention to James and Olivia. She went straight to the bed where William lay. This behavior displeased James and Olivia, who felt she lacked basic manners.
What they didn’t know was that Janie, at her young age, was already a guest of families more prestigious than theirs–she way around. was always the one being catered to, never the other

Olivia was also disappointed. Janie was too beautiful, and her perceived lack of decorum made it hard for them not to think their son was infatuated.
Jackson didn’t take this lightly. His gaze turned icy. “What do you mean? If we’re not welcome, we can leave.”
“Let’s go, Janie.”
Janie didn’t hesitate and walked toward him.
In front of others, she would certainly listen to Jackson.
If they didn’t want her help, she wouldn’t force it–did they expect her to beg them for the chance to help them?
Seeing them about to leave, David panicked. “Wait.”
He knew Janie and Jackson well enough. Janie had already done him a favor by coming, and if they left under these circumstances, it could frost their relationship for good.
David spoke quickly, “Mom and Dad, I’m not causing trouble. I was in danger earlier, and Janie saved me. She noticed my recent misfortunes and gave me a talisman. Given how strange Grandpa’s condition is, I specifically asked her to help us.” James and Olivia considered this. Given the situation, they might as well try anything, so they held their tongues.
David turned to Janie eagerly. “Have you found anything, Miss Janie?”
Janie was starting to feel irked. Her goodwill was met with coldness, and she couldn’t help but feel displeased.
Jackson was even less pleased.
Janie was usually treated like royalty. She had always been the one others sought help from. Why should she tolerate such condescension from this family?
If it weren’t for David, Jackson wouldn’t have bothered to be polite.
David spoke earnestly, “Miss Janie…”
People with abilities often had their own tempers, and he completely understood. Besides, his parents had indeed been rude.
Janie didn’t plan to dwell on it too much. After all, lives were at stake. She could empathize with James and Olivia‘ anxiety.
Still, it seemed she wasn’t quite used to socializing.
Janie nodded.
David’s spirits lifted. “Does this have to do with my situation?”
Janie nodded and went out of the room.
James and Olivia‘ impressions of her only worsened.
David said nothing and hurried after her.
Janie stepped out into the courtyard, strolling as if she were merely enjoying a walk.
Jackson and David followed closely behind.

Janie reached the tallest, oldest tree in the yard and pointed to a spot. “Dig here.”
James and Olivia were baffled, but they didn’t question her actions, deciding it was better to see what she could do.
Due to the commotion surrounding William, most servants had taken leave, and only the butler remained.
James and Olivia, and the butler were too old. Janie and Jackson were esteemed guests. They couldn’t be asked to dig, so David picked up a shovel and began to dig.
He wasn’t experienced in this, but he had the strength of a young man, so it wasn’t too difficult.
As he dug, something caught his eye.
He unearthed a small iron box.
Stunned, David reached for it.
Janie stopped him. “Don’t touch it.”
His hand froze.
Janie approached and squatted down. She took the box and placed a talisman on it before opening it.
Inside was a charm exuding dark energy, looking ominous.
James and Olivia, David, and the butler gasped in shock. “What is it?”
Janie remained unfazed. Moments later, the sinister charm was ignited, disappearing without a trace.
David asked cautiously, “What’s this, Miss Janie?”
“Just a low–level curse. Low–level but insidious. Your family’s misfortunes would continue until all your luck and life force are transferred to someone else, while they prosper.”
“As for who did this, you should investigate yourselves. It shouldn’t be too hard.”
David’s expression turned serious as he nodded.
James and Olivia exchanged uncertain glances.
Not bothering with them anymore, Janie pulled out a small vial and tossed it to David. “Here, take this. It’ll help them recover quickly.”
David caught it, gratitude spilling from his words. “Thank you.”
Janie turned to leave without saying anything.
James and Olivia were still in shock.
David glanced at them and rushed after Janie and Jackson. “I’m sorry. My parents were just worried. We’re all very grateful. Once my grandparents wake, we’ll make sure to thank you properly.”
Janie nodded casually.
Jackson wasn’t pleased. “Janie is generous. She’s always been the one others sought help from.”
David repeatedly apologized.
Jackson waved his hand. “Alright, go take care of your patients. And do find out what’s going on in your family. We’ll be on
