Caden spun around, stunned.
“Be together?” His voice cracked. “Lilith, I’ve only ever seen you as a sister. Brielle’s my mate. No one–ever–takes her place.”
Lilith’s smile froze.
She didn’t get it. They’d been so close–practically like lovers. Why hadn’t she replaced Brielle in his heart?
What was so wrong with choosing her?
Brielle was gone. Why couldn’t he just let go?
Tears welled as she lowered her head.
“I’m sorry. I misunderstood. Being your sister… that’s enough. I’m happy just staying by your side.”
Caden’s expression softened.
He patted her head.
“That’s the mindset. Stay home. Be good.”
Then he turned and bolted out the door, mate bond severance certificate clenched in his hand.
For the first time, Caden didn’t care how Lilith felt. He left without looking back.
Behind him, Lilith stared daggers at the empty bedroom.

Chapter 5
“Brielle, you’re gone, so stay gone,” Lilith hissed under her breath. “Can’t even leave without leaving your shadow behind. So damn infuriating.”
Caden tore through Moonhowl Pack–nothing. Not a single trace of Brielle.
Panic set in fast. He couldn’t sit still.
He called his assistant.
“I don’t care what it takes. Track her down. Now.”
He couldn’t make sense of it. All he did was bring back an old friend.
He didn’t hurt Brielle… did he?*
Did she really have to cut him off like this?
No calls. No notes. No hesitation.
She’d severed everything.
And now he knew-
She was really, truly done with him.
