Chapter 4
I suddenly spoke up, “Alpha Sabastian, were you involved in what happened all those years ago?”
He furrowed his brow. “Why bring this up now, at a time like this?”
But I needed to know. The person I loved for over a decade–was he the one who had sent me to hell?
Back then, when I repeatedly declared my innocence in the pack court, someone had handed over forged evidence. In the darkness of those three years, I eliminated every possible suspect.
The only person who could have accessed me and left me defenseless–besides Theo-

was him.
As I stared into Alpha Sabastian’s eyes now, everything became clear. The last trace of love I had for him faded completely.
“Rona, actually, I-”
Alpha Sabastian sighed, opening his mouth as though he had something to say.
But before he could, the doctor emerged, cutting him off.
“The patient’s condition has stabilized. You can go in and see her now.”
Alpha Sabastian’s face lit up with a glimmer of joy. Without sparing a glance at me, he rushed into the room.
I stood still, my heart turning numb as I

heard the affectionate sounds of Jade cooing and being comforted inside.
My parents and Theo arrived just then.
They raised their hands and slapped me across the face, scolding me in the hallway, “You poisonous thing, have you forgotten everything we taught you?”
“How dare you harm Jade? Tomorrow, we’re sending you back!”
I just sat there, numb, letting them vent their anger.
When they were done, they left without so much as a second glance, leaving me alone in the hospital.
I wandered the streets aimlessly, unsure where to go. But I knew one thing for sure–l

couldn’t go home.
Even my grandmother had heard of what happened and sent me money.
“Dear, the farther you go, the better. Don’t ever come back. Your parents have lost their minds.”
My eyes filled with tears once again.
At least Grandma always believed in me.
I bought a plane ticket to leave the White Pack the next day.
Theo and Alpha Sabastian called me, but I ignored them all.
“What, just because I said a few words, you’re going to act like this?”

“Jade’s fine, my parents‘ anger has subsided. You better come back quickly. Don’t miss tomorrow’s engagement”
Reading these messages, I felt nothing but indifference. They may have once genuinely cared for me, but now everything belonged to Jade.
So I wouldn’t go back. I wouldn’t let them hurt me anymore.
That night, I saw Jade’s post on social media.
“Someone made me these potato chips and promised to make them for me for the rest of his life!”
The picture showed Alpha Sabastian gazing at her with deep affection as he carefully fed her fries.

I thought I had already turned to ash inside.
But seeing that, my heart still throbbed with pain.
Alpha Sabastian, who never cooked and had stomach issues, was now making fries for Jade–something I had once learned from a chef, promising to make for him for the rest of our lives.
And now, he was using it to please Jade.
I blocked them all, turned off my phone.
Tomorrow, I would leave. What happened to them after that would no longer concern me.

The next day, I headed straight for the airport.
Grandma had arranged for me to stay with her old friend, Granny Sara, in the Moonlit Pack.
“Her grandson’s name is Bravado, he was your playmate when you were younger. You should remember him.”
“I’ve spoken to them, and they’ll take good care of you.”
As the plane took off, I watched the White Pack grow farther away. A sense of relief filled me.
Theo and Alpha Sabastian had sent me many messages, but I couldn’t be bothered to look.

I decided to block them all.
Time passed, and soon a new friend request popped up on my phone.
It was Bravado.
After I told him my flight details, he responded with a thumbs–up emoji.
Then he asked, “Rona, do you remember me?”
“Of course, how could I forget? You were the most mischievous of all of us.”
We used to be inseparable, the four of us. Later, Bravado had moved back to the River Pack with his parents, and we lost contact.
“No way, I took quite a few beatings for you.

You can’t forget that favor.“”
Bravado continued, “Don’t you remember that time when you almost got hit by a car and nearly lost his life? Who risked his life to save you?”
I frowned. “What do you mean? Wasn’t it Alpha Sabastian who saved me?”
“He actually took credit for my deed! It was me who saved you, who threw myself in front of that car for you. I ended up in the hospital for it. That guy isn’t loyal at all.”
My hands unconsciously clenched into fists, and the scene from that time resurfaced in my memory.
I was only eight then. A car was speeding toward me, and I blacked out.

When I woke up, Alpha Sabastian was there, his tear–filled eyes filled with concern as he held me close.
I thought it was him who had saved me. I fell in love with him then.
But now I realized–it had all been wrong from the start.
My breath caught for a moment. I closed my eyes in frustration.
When my family had gone to thank Alpha Sabastian, he hadn’t denied it. He had even allowed an engagement to be arranged, promising me that I would be his mate one day, and that he would love me for the rest of my life.
Back then, I had believed that he must have already loved me to make such a heavy

But now, I saw it for what it was–a desperate attempt to cover up the truth.
