Chapter 150

Ethan Blackwood sneered.

“Isabella, Xavier Delmar is a world-renowned comic artist.” His voice dripped with condescension. “You seriously think everything is yours? That’s just delusional, isn’t it?” Xavier had recently skyrocketed to fame, and Sophia Kensington, who had met him two years ago in Leswington, had gushed endlessly about his exceptional talent.

Naturally, Ethan was convinced Isabella was spinning lies.

Sophia leaned into him, her voice honeyed but laced with venom. “Don’t be upset, Ethan. You know how Isabella loves to play games.” She relished this rare opportunity to humiliate Isabella publicly and wasn’t about to let it slip away.

But Isabella fired back without hesitation.

“What’s the matter? Have you two lost your minds? Or do you just enjoy meddling in things you know nothing about?” She tilted her head, her smirk sharp. “I wouldn’t mind recommending a good psychiatrist. I’ll even give you a discount. After all, fools like you deserve a little charity.”

Sophia’s face flushed crimson, but she bit her tongue. She knew better than to provoke Isabella directly.

Ethan, momentarily silenced, felt the sting of her words. His mind flickered back to years ago—when Isabella had braved a storm to fetch a doctor for him when he was sick. Now, three years later, she stood before him like a stranger—cold, untouchable.

Xavier’s eyes gleamed with amusement. “Do you two know each other?”

Ethan straightened, pulling out a gold-embossed business card. “CEO of Blackwood Group. As for her?” His gaze flicked dismissively toward Isabella. “We used to know each other. Now? She’s just… unhinged.” The last word was gritted out, frustration barely contained.

Who would’ve thought his ex-wife would still dare to challenge him?

Xavier took the card, a smirk spreading. “Ah, Mr. Blackwood. I’ve heard great things.”

Ethan gave a curt nod. “Sophia speaks highly of your work. We came to show support—and discuss potential collaborations.” His eyes cut back to Isabella. “As for her? She’s nobody. Just desperate for attention. Don’t waste your time.”

Sophia added sweetly, “Don’t worry, Xavier. In Ontdale, the Blackwoods handle everything.”

It was Xavier’s first time in the city, and their words painted the Blackwoods as untouchable royalty. His gaze slid to Isabella, who stood calmly against the wall, arms crossed. He assumed she was cowed by Ethan’s threats—which only fueled his arrogance.

“No worries,” Xavier said, shrugging dramatically. “I’m the bigger person. Some people see what they want and call it theirs. Shame they lack the humility to admit they’re outmatched.”

He knew Isabella had no proof. When she left, she hadn’t taken her original drafts. He’d hidden them well.

Sophia’s eyes sparkled with malice. “You’re too kind, Xavier. Don’t be too hard on Isabella. Since the divorce, she’s been… stressed.”

Xavier’s brows rose. “Divorce? Ah. That explains the bitterness.”

The three of them exchanged barbs like actors in a rehearsed play.

Isabella watched, her smirk deepening. She hadn’t moved, her voice cool when she finally spoke.

“Fascinating, isn’t it? One sentence from me, and the three of you unravel like cheap yarn.”

Ethan stiffened. That look—the one that made him feel like he was drowning—was back.

“Isabella, enough. You cut in line and stormed in here like some obsessed fan. It’s pathetic.”

“Not as pathetic as you still clinging to that grand wedding everyone’s forgotten about,” she shot back. Then, turning to Sophia, her tone mockingly polite: “And you, Miss Kensington—you’ve certainly mastered the art of collecting men, haven’t you? First Ethan, now Xavier.”

Sophia’s composure cracked. “I have good relationships! Stop twisting everything!”

Ethan’s jaw clenched. He hated having his past dragged into the light.
