Chapter 289
Chapter 289
“Our people are still watching him. He’s been very quiet for now.”
“Alright, go on.”
“Yes.”
O
After Alan left, Julian stared at his phone again. On the screen was Rosalie’s phone number. He’d almost dialed it several times, but each time, he hung up just before the call went through.
After repeating this a few times, he finally made up his mind and dialed her number.
Since it was a new number, Rosalie hadn’t blocked it, and the call went through quickly.
The few seconds of waiting felt longer than ever for Julian. His palm was sweating as he gripped the phone.
For Julian, this was perhaps the most nervous and helpless moment he had ever experienced in his life.
“Hello?” The phone picked up.
A familiar yet cold voice came through the line. Julian instinctively tightened his grip on the phone.
“Rosalie,” He spoke, his hoarse voice betraying a hint of nervousness.
There was a clear pause on the other end, and after half a second, she responded, “Mr. Galloway, what’s the matter?”
It was the same cold question again. Julian’s gaze darkened slightly. “Can’t I call you just because I have no reason?”
“I don’t think Mr. Galloway and I still have the kind of relationship where we can casually chat on the phone.” Rosalie’s cold and distant voice continued, unfeeling, from the other end.
Julian, used to her indifferent replies, wasn’t angry. Instead, he softly chuckled.
Then, almost as if clinging to an unrealistic hope, he asked, “Won’t you come visit me?”
Perhaps his request lacked the proper conviction, and when Julian said it, his voice dropped a few pitches.
The cough from the pneumonia weakened his breath further.
Rosalie, hearing this unexpected request, frowned slightly.
Listening to the occasional coughing sounds from the other end, Rosalie felt a bit uneasy. “I’m not a doctor. There’s no point in me visiting. Mr. Galloway should just rest properly. I wish you a speedy recovery.”
With that, she moved to hang up, but Julian seemed to predict her move and spoke quickly, “Rosalie!”
Julian got a little anxious, and after calling out “Rosalie,” he started coughing heavily.
Rosalie couldn’t help but think back to that morning when she took Julian to the hospital and heard him calling out Roseanne’s name in his sleep, full of pain and regret.
She slightly tightened her grip on the phone.
Before she could say anything, Julian’s voice continued with coughs from the other end of the line. “Even if… even if our relationship is just professional, your collaborator got hospitalized, aren’t you going to come see me?”
Julian, probably worried that if he spoke too slowly, Rosalie would hang up on him, rushed through his words quickly.
And when he sped up his speech, he started coughing violently, which made Rosalie’s brow furrow tighter and tighter, her heart beating in sync with the rhythm of his coughs.
She didn’t want to respond, but her mouth betrayed her and spoke first, Jultan, can you slow down when you talk?”
As toon as she said that, she froze for a moment, her frown deepening in annoyance.
